WRITTLE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE THE IDEAL LOCATION WRITTLE VILLAGE The Writtle University College campus is just a few minutes walk from Writtle Village where you will find a supermarket, restaurants, banking facilities and tearooms. Just on the outskirts is Hylands Park which is famous for hosting the annual V Festival. CHELMSFORD We are just two miles from the only city in Essex. Buses from Writtle Village run regularly into Chelmsford, as well as the WUC Shuttle Bus. There is also a direct cycle route! The city has a bustling high street, shopping centres, attractive parks and gardens, cinemas, sports and leisure facilities, including Essex County Cricket Ground and an ice rink, plus a variety of restaurants and bars. Thankfully, there are plenty of transport options to make your journey to WUC as easy as possible. Sawbridgeworth Shuttle Bus We run a shuttle bus* to and from Chelmsford train and bus stations. There’s no fee and no need to book – seats are on a first come, first served basis. Hatfield Heath WUC Minibus Scheme We run a minibus service* on five direct routes** across Essex. Harlow CHELMSFORD It’s cheaper than public transport and you will get to travel to campus with other WUC students. Places on the WUC minibuses are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis. WRITTLE Priority is given to full-time students between 16 and 19 years old. Depending on availability, the service is available to part-time students for a standard fare. Travel Assistance Epping If you are a student between the ages of 16 and 19 and live in Essex, you can apply for assistance with travel fees to WUC through Essex County Council, as part of their Post 16 Transport Scheme. Each local council operates their own travel scheme and policy. Please contact the council in the area you live in for specific information. Students at WUC can get discounted fares with Greater Anglia Railway and First Essex Buses. Maths and English (ME) isn’t just about words and numbers - a good understanding of both subjects will be valuable throughout your life. It means you are more likely to progress in education, find a job and grow in your future career. At WUC, you will continue to develop your skills in Maths and English throughout your studies, whatever your ability. You are not alone! Around four out of ten teenagers leave school without a GCSE at Grade C or Grade 4 in Maths and English. A fresh start at college studying something you enjoy, can really help. If you are 16 to 19 years old and don’t have a GCSE at Grade C or Grade 4 in Maths and English, you will study English and Maths qualifications through Functional Skills or GCSE alongside your course. If you are over the age of 19, you will be encouraged to do the same. If you already have a grade C, 4, or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will continue to develop your skills during your classroom sessions and assessments. Don’t worry!
