Thursday 19 November This morning depart Auckland by minivan and travel to Matamata for a guided tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set and experience the real Middle-earth™ as seen in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the unequivocal beauty of the land, with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. Your guide will then escort you around the set, showing the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how the movie magic was made. At the end of the tour you will be presented with a complimentary, exclusive Hobbit™ Southfarthing™ beverage to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure. This afternoon we carry onto Rotorua. Four nights Peppers on the Point – See pages 7-11 for room types. Peppers on the Point is a fine example of the Peppers approach to creating unique properties with timeless appeal. Friday 20 November This morning we visit a private Rotorua garden – Bergamo. Bergamo is a large, established country garden which over the years has been extended in all directions. There are sweeping lawns bordered by shrubberies and mass plantings. The edible garden is extensive with an orchard, glasshouse, compost windrow, worm farm and fruit cage to complement the vegetable area. There are unusual plants and trees not generally seen in many gardens and the focus is on having a garden for all seasons. The Spring is full of colour with bulbs and Magnolias followed by Azaleas and Rhododendrons set off by many deciduous shrubs. After a walk in the garden enjoy a delicious morning tea provided by the owners. This afternoon jump onboard an eight-seater Gondola and experience spectacular views of Lake Rotorua, the city and steaming geothermal vistas. The 900-metre long Doppelmayr cableway system will transport you on a gentle, scenic ride up to the Skyline Rotorua complex. Tonight enjoy a special dinner at one of New Zealand premier lodges – Solitaire Lodge and take in the breathtaking views over Lake Tarawera, with lush natural bush and volcanic landscape as a backdrop. Enjoy pre-dinner drinks and canapes followed by a 5 course dinner. (B,D)
Saturday 21 November This morning we head to Redwoods Treewalk. Walk amongst giant 118 year old Redwood trees and open your eyes to the natural beauty of our forest. A peaceful haven for you to discover the forest floor, surround yourself with gentle giants, native fauna and sweeping silver ferns. After submerging yourself in nature we make our way to the world famous therapeutic Polynesian Spa. Polynesian Spa is New Zealand’s original and iconic geothermal bathing experience, with exclusive access to both acidic and alkaline natural mineral springs for the ultimate in rest and relaxation. Tonight enjoy a 2 course dinner at our hotel. (B,D)
Sunday 22 November This morning experience stunning geothermal activity at Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland, offering New Zealand’s most colourful and unique geothermal elements sculpted by thousands of years of geothermal activity. This afternoon is free to either relax and enjoy our beautiful hotel or if there is something else you would like to do while in Rotorua Tonight enjoy dinner at the Regent Room, located in the Regent of Rotorua. Monday 23 November This morning we say a sad farewell to Rotorua and start our journey home. On the way back to Auckland we will stop at Waitomo and discover the magic of a Waitomo Glowworm Caves tour. Take a boat ride through the glow worm grotto, marvel at thousands of magical glowworms and become part of over 130 years of cultural and natural history (B)
All prices are in New Zealand dollars. Prices are based on payment by cash, eftpos, cheque or direct deposit only. A surcharge of 2% applies for payment by Visa or Mastercard. Full payment is due at time of booking. Costs are based on a group of 7 passengers. If the group falls below this number World Travellers Remuera reserves the right to cancel the tour in which case a full refund would be given. Once paid the full amount is non-refundable.
