We have an early start this morning heading directly to the Mogo Zoo where we enjoy lunch in the Zoo café before looking around the zoo. The Zoo was deeply impacted by the recent bushfires with several animals taken home by keepers for refuge. The Zoo has been recovering from the fires and there are lions, tigers, jaguars, snow leopards (the only breeding pair in the country), a variety of monkeys, red pandas, small clawed otters to mention just some of the animals you will meet today and we will stay to hear the poplular White Lion talk. We now express through to Merimbula where on arrival we can check-in and freshen up for dinner. ACCOMMODATION Comfort Inn, Merimbula MEALS Lunch at Mogo Zoo, dinner in Motel
Merimbula & the South Coast 5 Day Tour DAY 2: Tues 16 November Exploring Merimbula After breakfast we board the Cat Balou for our two-hour Twofold Bay Cruise. Back on dry land we re-board the coach and head to the historical Boydtown for lunch at the Seahorse Inn. Boydtown was the original settlement in the bay and was founded by Benjamin Boyd in 1843 to service his properties on the Monaro Plains. The Seahorse Inn, named after one of Boyd’s steam- boats was the first building erected with the foundations constructed of sandstone imported from Sydney. After lunch we make our way back in to Merimbula where we will have some free time to wander this beautiful little fishing and popular holiday village. ACCOMMODATION Comfort Inn, Merimbula MEALS Breakfast at the Motel, lunch at Seahorse Inn, dinner at Merimbula Aquarium DAY 3: Wed 17 November Tilba Tilba and Bermagui This morning we make our way north to Tilba Tilba and the amazing Foxglove Gardens. This enchanting and absolutely beautiful property encompasses three and a half acres of exquisite open gardens, and has been featured on TV shows including Burke’s Backyard, and Better Homes and Gardens. The essence of the gardens is one of romance, fairy tale like charm and quaint English style elegance. With each season there are new wonders and floral delights to explore. A large section of the grounds have been extensively and beautifully developed over many years, with water features, a gardened ruin and the Willow House overlooking the duck pond. Having enjoyed a delicious morning tea and the gardens we head in to Bermagui for lunch at own expense. Bermagui hugs the edges of a spectacular harbour and nestles under the shadow of Dromedary Mountain, the small vibrant town is famous for its deep sea and game fishing, including yellow fin tuna and marlin. Following some free tme we visit the Montreal Goldfield. In September 1880, gold was discovered on a beach north of Bermagui. Named Montreal Goldfield, the rush barely lasted from 1880-1883 but nearly 250kg of gold was unearthed using only a pick and shovel. It became the only goldfield in Australia that extends into the sea. This goldfield was also the start of the great unsolved Bermagui Mystery—the disappearance of a government surveyor and four other men.
