Rituals commits to growing five million trees in 2022 Customers can help support Rituals’ goal of growing five million trees in 2022 by participating in its ‘Buy One Refill, G One Tree Programme’
Rituals is offering discounts on all refill products throughout Earth Week (16-22 April) Wellbeing company Rituals is celebrating Earth Day (today, 22 April) by committing to planting, protecting or restoring a tree for every refill sold. The brand aims to grow five million trees by the end of 2022. The tree-growing initiative is part of Rituals ‘Clean, Conscious & Caring’ strategy which aims to reduce its carbon footprint. The announcement follows Rituals’ B Corp certification earlier this year. “In the travel retail channel, consumers are increasingly seeking brands with proven sustainability credentials,” commented Rituals Global Travel Retail Director Melvin Broekaart. “The five million trees commitment underlines that at Ritual Cosmetics we are taking our sustainability responsibilities seriously. As a wellbeing brand first and foremost, we are eager to be at the forefront of projects which help consumers make more informed and sustainable choices and inspire kinder practices for both people and planet.” Rituals has partnered with environmental non-profit organisations Earthday.org and ClimatePartner to achieve its goal of growing five million trees by the end of this year. The organisations protect and restore mangroves in India and Kenya. Mangrove forests are one of the world’s most important natural carbon sinks and protect various plant and animal species in coastal areas from harsh weather conditions and ocean tides. In collaboration with both organisations, Rituals is empowering local communities to build back the loss of tree cover from deforestation and protect local forest reserves. Rituals will partner with additional organisations throughout the year to further support its reforestation efforts.
Rituals’ Refill Revolution Rituals’ growing Refill Collections allow customers to enjoy luxury wellbeing products while also being mindful of the planet. To support Rituals’ tree-growing project, the brand is offering customers a discount on any refill product purchased throughout Earth Week (16-22 April). Commenting on the brand’s refill initiatives, Rituals Innovation & Sustainability Director Niki Schilling said: “Rituals is all about wellbeing – we value people’s personal wellbeing as much as the environmental wellbeing. With our refill movement we help our customers to make conscious decisions. In 2021 alone, we saved 434.138 kg in materials, thanks to our loyal customers choosing our wide range of eco-chic refills. “Understanding the crucial role that trees play in the future of our planet, we introduced the Buy One Refill, Grow One Tree Programme, to trigger proactive changes that support our environment,” Schilling added.
Over the next year, Rituals will support various reforestation and carbon capture initiatives to help prevent climate change. Rituals has pleged to transition its entire personal care range to 90% natural origin ingredients by 2023. It has also committed to shift all its packaging to 100% recyclable/refillable or made with recycled materials by 2025. The company is also reducing its carbon footprint in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
