Rio 2016 Program BACKGROUND For 16 days in August 2016 (August 5 – 21), Rio de Janeiro will host the games of the 31st Olympiad, the world’s largest international multi-sport event. The 2016 Summer Olympics are commonly known as Rio 2016. It is the first time in the history of the Olympics that the games will be held in South America. The sporting events will take place across 33 venues throughout the city, host more than 10,500 athletes and millions of spectators. Coincidentally in 2016, the Brazil-U.S. Business Council will complete 40 years of bridging the gap between Brazil and the U.S. and the American Chamber of Commerce – Brazil, Rio de Janeiro will be celebrating its 100th Anniversary. Together, we will be celebrating the many achievements to-date and will be looking to the future of the bilateral relationship. The celebration will kick off the next decade of strategic positioning of our member companies as an influential force in government agendas. We invite you to join the celebrations in Rio 2016. Museu do The venue reserved for this special event is the newly constructed Museu do Amanhã / Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow) being inaugurated in 2015 to be opened Museum of to the public in 2016. Located in the newly renovated Praça Mauá (Plaza Tomorrow Mauá) area as part the upgrade to Rio’s Porto Maravilha Olympic district and conceived as part of the Olympic preparations, the Museum of Tomorrow is the ideal location for realization of this event, examining the future of humanity for the next 50 years including: climate change, population growth and longer longevity, greater integration and differentiation, technological advances, changing biodiversity and the expansion of knowledge. 4
