A Word from the Chair of the Board of Directors T his year, Blue Metropolis once again announced positive financial results, and I would like to emphasize that after six years of major belt-tightening, in an economic context that is not particularly favourable to the arts, we have completely eradicated the Foundation’s accumulated deficit. This has been a long process, which has involved the development and implementation of an entirely new management model, along with a concerted effort. These measures to reduce costs had no impact on the quality of the Festival’s programming or on its attendance. Quite the opposite! As you will read in our report, in 2017 Blue Metropolis International Literary Festival surpassed the milestone of 100,000 visitors and was part of the official programming for Montreal’s 375th anniversary celebrations. My colleagues on the board of directors join me in thanking our financial partners, both from the public and private sectors, as well as our many donors, in particular those who faithfully attend our benefit events. Special thanks to our volunteers, who include no less than 60 experts in literature and education, and who make it possible for Blue Metropolis to develop quality educational and social programs. Finally, I wish to congratulate the entire Blue Metropolis team on this exceptional year. Cameron Charlebois
