GENERAL INFORMATION Leadership This event is open to troops and individual scouts throughout the Golden Empire Council. Registration is limited to 100 scouts. Location - Driving Directions Location: 2421 Equestrian Way, Pilot Hill, CA 38.784090°N, 121.005123°W From anywhere in the Sacramento area, make your way to Green Valley Road-Salmon Falls Road intersection in El Dorado Hills by whichever route you prefer. From this intersection, travel north on Salmon Falls Road 8.2 miles, then turn right on Equestrian Way. Follow the signs 1 mile to the Jackson Ranch. Putting the geo-coordinates into your MapQuest or Garmin devices will direct you safely to this location. ON EQUESTRIAN WAY, PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY TO AVOID HITTING/SPOOKING THE PEOPLE AND/OR HORSES ON THE ROAD. PLEASE DRIVE NO FASTER THAN 14 MPH ONCE YOU TURN OFF SALMON FALLS ROAD!!! Weather Be prepared. Check the weather forecasts leading up to the event. Please have your scouts PREPARED. Fire danger will be high at this time of the year, so no outside fires or cooking will be permitted at this site. Campsites Bring a ground cloth and a sleeping bag. NO TENTS will be allowed. You will be gazing up at the stars from a back-leaning rest position on your own sleeping bag. Vehicles Parking space will be extremely limited. If more than one scout from a unit is attending this event, carpooling is encouraged. There will be no need for troop trailers. Fires and fire watch duty Fire danger will be high at this time of the year. Fires will not be permitted. Adults present will stand a 2-hour fire watch shift, throughout the night, to ensure the safety of the participants. Sign-ups for fire watch will be taken at the time of registration. Water Potable water is available at the Jackson Ranch property. The water is available at the ranch buildings.
Garbage There will be no on-site disposal for the trash and garbage generated by your unit. You will be expected to remove all your garbage. Permission Slips and Unit Medical Records All units must have the permission slips and medical forms for each Scout. Be prepared to show them when checking in. Permission forms are attached to this leader’s guide. ● Every Scout, under 18 years of age, shall have a Parent Authorization for Trip/Activity and Medical Treatment form. ● Every participant shall have a BSA Health Form (Parts A & B only). Check In ● Friday evening – 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Check Out ● Saturday check out will start after breakfast. Uniform –Scouts and Unit leaders shall wear the appropriate uniform at all times, as outlined below: ● Activity uniform (Class B) is appropriate. This is ranch land so closed toed shoes should be worn at all times. ● You will be sleeping in your uniform. A change of socks is encouraged. Equipment ● If you have a telescope that you would like to share with the group, you may bring it to this event. ● Cameras for taking pictures of the stars are encouraged. You can incorporate this event into photography merit badge. ● NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY WILL BE ALLOWED. ● NO cell phones will be allowed. No food available at site.
Saturday morning troops will be feasted at an oatmeal buffet breakfast. Food allergies need to be brought to the attention of the event organizers prior to the start of the event so accommodations can be made. Medical Issues ● All illnesses and injuries shall be reported the event staff. ● Event staff will have first aid assistance available at the Headquarters staff area. ● Phone service is available for 9-1-1 calls in the event of a life-threatening medical emergency.
