SUMMER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Summer Academy Classes Summer Academy is a FREE oppportunity for Boys & Girls, Grades K-8th to participate in their choice of classes during 3 weeks in June. Children can participate in one or in as many classes as they would like. Classes sizes are limited and we will not extend beyond these limits. A waiting list will be created once a class is filled. Registrations are not completed until they are in the computer software. For this reason, we highly encourage you to register ONLINE to secure your child(s) spot in our classes. Class content will not change from week to week, therefore, we ask that you do NOT sign your child up for the same class week to week. Select classes do have a supply requirement that will be listed within the class description that we ask you respect. To make sure class content is age appropriate, age groups will not be negotiable. Children should be enrolled in the grade they are going into in the Fall of 2019. ‘R’ Recreation staff will be available in between classes to assist children if needed, but it is expected that children will be able to walk to and from each class on their own. These “survival” bracelets and key chains are easy & fun to #ParacordCrazy CWC Main make, and in a pinch can be taken apart to be used for a multitude of uses. We will have a variety of 1-2pm 1-2pm 5th-8th Joy Pettit Hall 179 cord colors for boys & girls, so get signed up and learn to braid your own survival bracelet and keychain. Limit 12 Have you ever watched a movie and wondered, “who thought this whole thing up?” Well, these people Screenwriting 101 CWC Main 1-2pm 7th-8th are called screenwriters, and they get to create the whole story and characters in the movies. This is your Jeremy Nielsen Hall 161 chance to learn screenwriting styles and write your own short screenplay. Limit 10 Are you ready to try your hand at sport stacking and have lots of fun doing it? This is an exceptional Robert A. Sport Cup Stacking activity to developed hand-eye coordination, focus, concentration and ambidexterity. It’s a sport that 2-3pm 5th-8th Peck Arts Phyllis Zenk everyone can learn and, with practice, improve your times as you challenge yourself ! Students will learn Center 137 the 3-3-3 stack, the 3-6-3 stack, the cycle stack and the rapid fire. Limit 15 Duct Tape Team Are you a part of a team? Sure you are!!! Every day in fact; think not just sports but also school, family, CWC Main friends, church, and clubs! With a roll of duct tape, you will learn skills such as leadership, trust, Building 2-3pm 5th-8th Hall 179 cooperation, creativity, and problem solving, all while building self-confidence to make sure your “teams” Joy Pettit stick together and succeed. This honey and wax can be used to make some very nice beauty products that can make a girl’s Connie Murray Center 157 life more elegant. In this class we will create some fun little ‘extras’ using honey. Limit 15 Lights, Camera, Ever wanted to make your own movie? Learn how movies are made, then make one of your own. Action: Make Your CWC Main 2-3pm 7th-8th Students will explore cameras, directing, acting and editing for movies and together the class will make a Own Movie Hall 161 movie in 1 week.
