18th June 2021 RECEPTION WEEKLY LETTER A r o und up of t h i s w e e k ' s f u n a c t i v i t i e s w i t h M r s T a y l o r and Mr Braidwood. Healthy Living Week 2021 'Find your healthier you!'
What a bright and fun week we have had learning about keeping healthy. There are so many aspects to Healthy Living and we have managed to squeeze them all into just 5 days! A very colourful healthy week We have done various activities throughout the week. The boys were tasked with colouring in the fruits and vegetables that they liked. Many of the boys coloured in lots while others are clearly picky about the fruits and vegetables they eat. We talked a lot about trying new foods and the boys were happy to try new things at lunch. They cut out fruits and vegetables and made some very funny faces. On Thursday the boys were chefs, both in ICT and in the classroom where they had fun making fruit kebabs. To finish the week the boys enjoyed doing a Circuit Fitness Challenge with Mr Young. We went for various nature walks around the school. The boys loved feeding the fish and seeing the newts in the pond. They also loved going to the Outdoor Classroom to look for bugs and walking the perimeter on our early morning walk. The boys learned about grounding and tree hugging too! We have also talked to the boys about all the elements of Healthy Living and how important it is to get enough sleep, keep clean, be mentally as well as physically strong, stay hydrated and of course eat a balanced diet. Please do continue to talk about this very important subject. Please do continue to focus on these aspects of Healthy Living with your child over the weekend and beyond. It has been lovely seeing all the variety of different snacks coming in each day! Maths This week we have talked about doubling numbers. We showed the boys where they can see doubles of things. They then looked at dominoes and dice to play games to call out the double of a number. The boys were very good at this, and is an easy game to continue to play in the car. You can click here and here for some cool tunes about doubles. Next week we shall look at the inverse of this; halving! We will also revisit Time. Can you remember the o'clock dance!? The boys also need to continue counting and writing their numbers as high as they can go! We are very sad that Grandparents' Day cannot go ahead this year. But you will be pleased to know that we will be having a whole Pre Prep Grandparents' Day next year!
A reminder that the Parents Information Evening and New Boys' Visit are for the new Reception intake 2021. Father's Day We have been talking about Fathers or other male role models in our families, and all the lovely things that they do for us in preparation for Father’s Day on Sunday. We hope you enjoy opening your envelopes; remember to wait until Sunday! Physical Development The boys have been exploring The Upper and practising various races for Sports Day. Thankfully you are still allowed to join us on the morning of 28th June for their Sports Day, from 11.00am - 12.30pm. The boys then go home with you at 12.30pm. We will be meeting the new Reception boys in the afternoon! How quickly the year is going! They have also been playing cricket in their Friday Games lesson. They are developing their hand-eye co-ordination and practising hitting the ball with the bats. We have cancelled the Reception Splash on the afternoon of Tuesday 6th July, but we will all be swimming on this day, rather than Monday. Trip to Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve We will be visiting Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve on Wednesday 30th June. The boys will travel by minibuses and we shall spend the day looking at the minibeasts, pond dipping and of course, eating lunch!
