— — APRIL 2018 ABB Ability™ TXpert™ digital dry-type transformer Making it easier to ensure your operations stay on PGTR Dry & Traction
— Today’s situation… Dry-type transformers are the safest and most reliable transformers on the grid. Eliminated risk of Lower total installation fires or explosions costs No need for oil Eliminated risk of containment or fire oil leaks or spills suppression Lower ownership Less code restrictions costs Low to no maintenance No insurance premiums requirements Indoor and outdoor Lower load losses installations June 1, 2019 Slide 2
— But, we live in an ever changing world… Though robust, even dry-type transformers will not last forever; externalities shorten life expectancies Aging equipment Environmental forces As electrical equipment naturally Natural disasters, changing approaches end of life, they climates and electrical storms all subject networks to faults and stress grid equipment transients causing disturbances throughout their lifetimes Distributed generation Increasing demand Power is now flowing in all Growing need for AC to DC directions, creating new converting subjects electrical challenges for established grid networks to increased networks harmonics and transients External stresses are the number one cause of failure of dry-type transformers June 1, 2019 Slide 3
— External stresses may affect life expectances Ideal transformer life curve Ideal transformer resiliency curve Electrical stress Stress Operational Planned stress end of life Time June 1, 2019 Slide 4 Aged timeline is exaggerated for demonstration
— External stresses may affect life expectances Realistic transformer life curve Extreme Ideal transformer resiliency curve weather event System Aged transformer resiliency curve fault Stress Emergency Electrical stress overloading Increased harmonics Switching event Unplanned Planned outage end of life Time Unplanned outages are costly and result in significant downtime. With proper monitoring, they can be avoided. June 1, 2019 Slide 5 Aged timeline is exaggerated for demonstration
— What if we could turn the unplanned into planned? ABB Ability™ TXpert™ for dry-type transformers; the world’s first digital dry-type transformer TXpert™ dry-type transformer Digitalization platform ABB’s TXpert™ dry-type transformer ensures increased uptime through a reliable and easy to use analytics platform: – Increased uptime: analytics driven to reduce and shorten unplanned or planned outages – Ease of use: local or wireless connectivity, interactive GUI, SQLite Database – Peace of mind: (2) layer minimum cyber security, 20 year+ sensor life, does not affect transformer operation, completely dry solution Advanced analytics Power quality at the transformer – Voltage sag and swell, Power Factor, Voltage THD, Current k-factor Consumed life – Based on IEEE/IEC standard loading guides Abnormal conditions – Notification if the unit encountered water damage, high faults, etc. June 1, 2019 Slide 6
— ABB Ability™ TXpert™ for dry-type transformers Additional features for increased monitoring and ease of use Fan control Connectivity Certified Flexibility – Standard fan trip, – RFID and digital – EMI/EMC, IEC 61000- – Does not affect alarm relays and certificate protected 4-X series for electrical transformer operation programmable for local WiFi signal to and magnetic or size and works with auto exercising allow for wireless interference, most indoor and connection and data IEC61326-1, IEC\EN outdoor applications download 61010 – Fan monitoring – Provided Ethernet – Sensor package and – Capable of future sensors to notify in the hard-wire connection processing unit does expansion for new event of a fan motor for remote access not affect the UL hardware and software failure listing or CE mark of upgrades the transformer June 1, 2019 Slide 7
— ABB Ability™ TXpert™ dry-type transformer Open for pilot opportunities now, full release beginning in 2019 Pilot program details The TXpert™ package will be provided free of charge to partners who will agree to the following: – Allow ABB access to the data logs and software upgrades : • Once/month for the first (3) months of energization • Twice/year for the first (5) years after energization • After any significant system or unit failure during the life of the transformer – Piloting terms and conditions will apply • TXpert™ package will be supplied ‘As is’ with no warranty • Transformer active assembly warranty will not be affected – The TXpert™ package will not be available for retrofitting existing installations during initial launch period – First deliveries will be available starting June 2018 June 1, 2019 Slide 8
