WORKSHOPS CLASSES PASTEL & PASTEL SOCIETY OF AMERICA CELEBRATING OUR FORTY-SIXTH YEAR SEPTEMBER 2018 – NOVEMBER 2019 The Pastel Society of America announces 10 new workshops and five on-going classes by nationally acclaimed pastel artists. All instruction takes place in the historic National Arts Club of New York with the exception of Destination Workshops. Pastel Society of america
The Pastel Society of America (PSA), established by Flora B. Giffuni in 1972, is the oldest pastel society of its kind in America. Located in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of New York City, PSA’s home is in the National Arts Club (NAC), a glorious historic Victorian building, once the resi- dence of New York’s Governor Samuel Tilden. PSA is largely responsible for the current renaissance of pastels in American art and for supporting and directly aid- ing the creation of other pastel societies in the United States. Thanks to the generosity of Mrs. Giffuni, the Flora B. Giffuni Gallery of American Pastels was established in 2004 at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio, the only museum gallery in the United States devoted exclu- sively to the pastel medium. In 1989, PSA opened the doors of the School for Pastels to students wishing to learn the versatile techniques of the pastel medium. Hundreds of artists have learned the myriad methods of pastel painting and drawing since PSA’s school opened. The Annual Exhibition: Enduring Brilliance, in the Grand Gallery of the National Arts Club, is the premier event for pastel artists in this country and abroad. PSA encourages artistic advancement by making prestigious awards, both monetary and material, available dur- ing this exhibition. Join the many teachers and students from all over the world who have furthered their edu- cation in the medium they love at the PSA School for Pastels. Additions Coming to the Educational Program 2018-19 Here are some exciting announcements for PSA special events and opportunities for artists: • Workshop monitoring program • Open studio use exclusively for enrolled PSA School students • Destination Workshops Please contact the PSA office in advance of the workshop date for your supply list: 212-533-6931 email: psaoffice@pastelsocietyofamerica.org
