About The College
U
pendra Nath Brahma College, popularly known as U.N. Brahma College, the leading educational
Institution of Lower Assam as well as in Bodoland Territorial Council was founded in 2001 with the
noble ambition of bringing higher education within the reach of common people.
Ever since its establishment the college has been effectively catering to the need of higher education in
Chirang and its neighbouring districts. The college promises to provide quality education for the socio-
economic and educationally disadvantaged people.
The management of the college strongly believes in the active participation of people from all sections of the
society to face the challenges of present time so that higher education becomes a tool to realize the potential
of the students to meet their future prospects.
The college emphasises on the man-making education which will produce morally upright, intellectually
competent and spiritually guided future citizens of our Great Country.
In order to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people and to transform the college into a centre of
excellence the Govt. of Assam has granted the college a concurrence in the year 2005 and later received its
affiliation from Gauhati University. The college has also been recognised by UGC New Delhi, Ministry of
HRD under Section 2 (F) and 12(B) of the UGCAct, 1956.
Background of The College
U
pendra Nath Brahma College is the only full fledged three years Degree College in the heart of
Kajalgaon, the district headquarter of Chirang. Kajalgaon once a sleepy hemlet of Assam, shot into
sudden prominence when it was declared a district headquarter of Chirang as a result of the
formation of Bodoland Territorial Council in the year 2003.
At a time when the society was taken over by poverty, illiteracy, ignorance, superstition and other nasty and
immoral acts it is the selfless and untiring effort of some enthusiastic intellectuals, educationists, social
workers and the common people of the locality to realise the urgency of the hour and the need of an ideal
educational institution. As a result of it, the college was established in the year 2001 in the name of Upendra
Nath Brahma, the father of the Bodos, for realising his dreams, aspirations and philosophies to be a noble
being.
The College was lucky enough to have the services of Dr. Dinanath Basumatary, the first Principal who
dedicated himself and made many sacrifices to make the college a worthy institution of higher learning. It is
worth mentioning to record the services of Dr. Nilpadmini Rabha, present Principal of the college who came
forward to serve this institution at a time when its future was uncertain at the nascent time. Sri Kumud Narzary
took the charge as Vice-Principal of the college and serving in his best capacity.
