The Modern School BPTP Parklands, Sector 85, Faridabad THE BEACON VOLUME: I ISSUE: 4 January-March, 2021 Welcome 2021!! To welcome the new year on a happy note and with a positive thinking, students of Grade P2 did an e- card designing activity using MS paint. They created various patterns using their imagination and were very excited to learn something new in the beginning of the year. It was a wonderful creative experience for them. I am a……... If we want to progress, we should respect each other and also the contribution by all ,to our society. If we do not have our helping hands such as barber, doctor, nurse, engineer etc. to help us at every step , it will become very difficult for us to survive. Also it becomes our moral duty to be grateful to them. To make the students of Kindergarten understand the work these people do and their contribution to the society, a Role Play Activity was conducted where they dressed up as different helpers of our society and explained the duties they perform .These kinds of activities are done to instill dignity of labour in the students.
It’s Quiz Time! The quest for knowledge ,like everything else of value, is not to be obtained easily. It must be worked for and studied for. To instill in students an ability of scientific inquiry and team spirit, an Intra Class Quiz for Grades S1-S3 was conducted. The quiz tested students' ability to apply the conceptual understanding in the arena of Science. to practical situations .It gave them a platform to prove their learning and reasoning skills. Everyone was surprised with the way students enthusiastically participated and promptly replied to the questions put across by the Quiz Master . A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. To make students aware about the importance of healthy eating habits, concept of Healthy Food and Junk Food was taken up with the students of Grade Nursery. They were explained about the benefits of eating healthy food and ill effects of eating Junk food. Further, to clear the concept they did a sorting activity where they pasted the pictures of healthy food on the smiling face and junk food on the sad face. They also learnt about this difference through real objects like an orange, bread, chapatti, juice, egg, candies, chips, biscuits and many more.

J for …..Joker To introduce letter „J‟ to the students of Grade Nursery „Joker' Making Activity was done. They used colourful papers, cotton balls and paper plates to make the face of a joker . They also learnt about the various acts performed by the joker in the circus. Such activities help in developing fine motor skills and kinesthetic skills. Lohri…..the Virtual Way Lohri, the harvest festival which marks the beginning of the new year, is celebrated with great pomp and show in the states of Punjab and Haryana. Big bonfire, foot tapping bhangra, sweetness of gur, giggles and laughter of friends and relatives, bright attires - all say the story of happiness. The celebration saga began with the assembly presented by the students show casing various colours of Lohri like dhol making, Til Ladoo Making, Rangoli Making , Kite Making , creating a bonfire with paper that added to the galore of the festival. Zero does not mean Nothing! To introduce the concept of number "Zero” , students of Grade Nursery were narrated the story of „Zero the Hero‟ using the number cards and were explained the value of number Zero. Later during hands - on learning session, they made a cut out of number Zero from waste cardboard and decorated it using ribbons and glitter tape. Indulging children in such kind of activities help in enhancing their concentration and eye hand coordination.
Ice...Ice….Baby….. Sates of matter is an important part of building a solid foundation for basic science. Students of Grades Nursery and Kindergarten did the science experiment on three states of water where they learned about state of water- solid, liquid and gas. It was a surprising for them to see ice changing into water then gas as vapours, vapours cooling again as water and on freezing converting again to ice . Such experiments help in developing critical thinking in a child. It also nurtures intellectual curiosity, helping them to acquire new ways of asking questions and understanding the world. The Yummy Educational Pizza The students of Grade P2 did an activity to learn the concept of fraction by drawing a pizza and dividing it into equal parts and wrote the fraction for each part. The idea was to make them understand about the equal division of parts and marking the fractions. They enjoyed the activity and understood the concept well. Financial Awareness With an idea to make kids aware of financial awareness, an activi- ty- 'Plan the budget for your Birthday Party' - was conducted in Grade P3. Through this activity students learnt to make a bill. They practised it by using basic fundamental operations using money. It can be a challenge for little kids to understand the value of money however such hands-on activities help them to keep a check on the expenses. The students realised the importance and value of money. They were able to differentiate between the wants and needs. They enjoyed and learnt the concept well.
Republic Day-26.01.2021 With freedom in mind, strength in words, pureness in blood, pride in souls and zeal in heart, the students and staff of The Modern School , Faridabad celebrated the 72nd Republic Day .The celebration started with the unfurling of the national flag by the Principal followed by the national anthem . Speaking on the occasion, the Principal told about the real meaning of being a Republic and also congratulated all on braving the pandemic like warriors and coming out as winners. The special Assembly was conducted by the Nilgiris House. Gayatri Mantra was followed by students' talk on the importance of Republic Day and Constitution. The cultural event included patriotic songs, folk dances and a tableaux presentation on Uttarakhand, Digital India, Ram Mandir and the three Defence forces of our country. Ms. Surbhi Sodhi, House Mistress of Nilgiris House through her talk made students understand the meaning of constitution and its importance and inspired them to be better citizens. To make the day all the more colourful students of Grades Nursery and Kinder- garten made tricolour fruit salad . Puppets are Fun! Puppetry is a very ancient form of theatre. The students of Grades P1-P4 ,in their Life skills class enjoyed the virtual puppet show followed by creative Puppet Making Activity on February 25, 2021. They were introduced to the hand pup- pets created from the stick design. This activity helped the students lay their hands on the art form that develops their visual-spatial intelli- gence and kinesthetic intelligence. The stu- dents presented their immaculate work by mak- ing colourful puppets by using interesting mate- rials like colour paper, ice cream sticks, cloth, recycled medium etc. to create stick puppets. I do….I learn Community Helpers are the people who are helping us day and night to make our lives easy . They also ensure that the community stay healthy, safe and hap- py. To make the students of Grade Nursery aware of different helpers , Show „n‟ Tell Activity was held. They were dressed up as different helpers like doctor, plumber, green grocer etc. and explained the duties they perform. During hands- on activity session they made the Nurse cap and learned about their role in present time. It was a good learning session.
Nurturing Creativity Craft activities are a great way to enhance students‟ creativity and thinking skills. While learning about sav- ing money and value of money in life skills class , Piggy Bank Making Activity was organized on Febru- ary 3,2021 for students of Grades P1-P4. They made their own Piggy Bank using waste material by incorpo- rating the techniques like painting, snipping with scis- sors and decorated it using their own creativity . Children enjoyed the activity and learnt how waste things can be converted into useful objects. on all round development of a child. Pink in the Air… Pink is the colour of Universal love.. It is associated with sweetness and politeness. Students of Grade Nursery celebrated Pink Day with full enthusiasm. They were taught how by mixing Red and White, we get Pink. They did spray painting in Lotus and made a Flamingo related to the concept. Learning by doing technique is the best way of concept clarity among young learners. Let’s Enjoy a Story! "Story telling is the most powerful way to put ideas into the world." Students of Kindergarten enjoyed different story telling sessions where they learnt and understood the value of hospitality and friendship through the stories- ' Hospitality of pigeons' and 'The Two Friends and the Bear' . During skill devel- opment session , they learnt to make animals and birds with colourful clay. Such sessions and activi- ties help in inculcating values and overall develop- ment of a child.
Experiential Learning in Progress The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct.” Carl Jung. The above statement holds the truth when we talk about holistic development of a child. Experiential learning is the best method to make a child learn to be independent and help them in learning how to han- dle various tools. With this view, Snip with Scissors Activity was held for the students of Grade Kinder- garten. With the help of plastic Scissors, they cut different shapes and then created their favourite object using the cut-outs. Welcome Back! In the year 2020 an entire generation has seen its education interrupted. The reason- COVID. This has caused immeasurable disruption to the lives, learning and wellbeing of children around the world. As the ray of hope amidst all this, the COVID-19 vaccine, shines, the hope of coming back to the physical classroom, strengthens. The school opened its doors to the offline classes strictly adhering to all the SOPs and protocols advised by the CBSE. It was not a normal day when the school started. The Modern School witnessed what was longed from a very long time….the beaming faces of our children of Grades X and XI. The children looked ecstatic being in the premises and the physical classroom. Sending the children to school was strictly on consent basis but those who were still at home did not have to suffer as the teachers made enormous pedagogical changes to meet the needs of both the online and offline students. New improved AV setup to ensure smooth classes was installed. It was new. It was exciting and it was successful. We, at The Modern School are confident about having smooth and guidelines-adhered offline classes in the near future.
Winners Take It All! Modern thoroughly believes in the theory of holistic development of a child and religiously follows it by way of conducting various competitions for the students. Students equally participate whole heart- edly and always amaze all with their performances. Heartiest congratulations to all the winners who have participated in various competitions held in this fortnight and have come out with flying colours. May you keep on doing well!!!
Safety Begins With Me! Safety starts with “S”, begins with “You" and when on road, only "You" can be the one to save your- self and others. Looking at the increase in the number of road accidents at an alarming rate, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in association with CBSE, has taken an initiative to cele- brate the Road Safety month from January 18,2021 to February 17,2021 A plethora of programmes were organised to enlighten the students on safety on road, driving rules and cautions. During the whole month educational banners, safety posters, safety films, pocket guides and leaflets related to the road safety were made by the students of all grades. Students explained about the methods and necessities of the road safety and how people must understand the use of helmets or seat belts while driving on the road or anywhere. Master Strokes Blooming flowers, colourful butterflies and bright sunlight, all mark the beginning of the Spring season. Little kids of Grade Kindergarten , who themselves are synonymous to life and colours welcomed the onset of the Spring by bring- ing it live on the paper when they used their imagination to paint the vibrancy of Spring . Different strokes made by the tiny hands were praise worthy Basant Pachmi Festival of Basant Panchami marks the arrival of the Spring season in India. The festival is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati who symbolises knowledge, music and art. People worship Goddess Saraswati and seek her blessings. Following the tradition , students of The Modern School celebrated the festival with full devotion. Special Assembly was conducted by the students of Grade P1 and Pre Primary Wing. They soulfully rendered the prayer to Goddess Saraswati and told about the various aspects of the festival. As the school, following all the protocols, has begun for the students of Grades X and XI , students bowed in front of Goddess to seek her blessings. May we all be blessed by Maa Saraswati with knowledge. up with creative ideas. Yoga Week COVID 19 has taught us that no matter if we cannot go out for workout , it‟s time to roll out our yoga mat indoors and discover the combination of physical and mental exercises . Yoga has the power to calm the mind and strengthen the body and when taking about children it becomes all the more necessary. To indulge our students in a healthy rou- tine , Yoga Week was conducted for the the students of Grades P1-P4 where they practiced various yoga poses un- der the guidance of sports instructor. The session witnessed good attendance and was the learning experience for all.
I love Cooking Cooking is an art .In order to make our students independent, the school provides them a platform to learn new recipes which can be prepared with ease. Kanchenjunga House of the School organized a cookery workshop - Choco Bite for the students of Grades P1 - P4 .It was presented by Ms. Payal Ba- jaj who taught them recipes of Chapati Cone and Choco Tulip. The students prepared the dishes and enjoyed a lot. Not only children but also their mothers were equally excited to learn easy ways to making delicious dishes. It was a fun filled learning session. Children Bring Laurels…. Yet another feather is added in the cap of The Modern School, Faridabad by our young brigade by showcasing stupendous performance in various sports and winning the positions. Where Vivasvaan Bhatt of P2 has won Bronze medal in 33rd district Roller Skating Championship organized by Dis- trict Roller Skating Association in 500mts (inline) -7 to 9 yrs age category, Prachi Malik of P5 has won under 14 doubles Tennis Tournament. Heartiest congratulations to both of you. Keep soaring high!
Post Exams Activities Day1 & 2 We do not learn for the benefit of anyone, we learn to unlearn ignorance. After the hectic and stressful schedule of Examinations, each child looks forward to a break which helps him/her to rejuvenate. The School endorses the Post Exam Activities as a must-do. It was a journey of ten days through the Tinsel Town of Fun and Frolics. Day 1 and Day 2 saw a mind blowing response when some exciting activities created by the teachers, popped out of the magic box . What fun it was for the tiny tots to watch a Puppet Show and creating a finger puppet. If story telling took them to fairy land then bold strokes with colours opened up the doors of creativity. While reading was a pleasure , singing was fun. Mouth watering delicacies prepared by students gave a break to their mothers. An informative workshop given by Yakult India was an icing on the cake. Day 3 Happiness cannot be measured in words. It was proved by the glowing faces of children Day 3 began with plethora of activities like crazy imprints, singing, dancing , flower making,clay sculpting and many more. If on one hand, children learnt about healthy living through yoga and healthy eating ,then on the other hand they enjoyed creating 3D models of trees and fruit baskets, with clay. Movie time was thoroughly enjoyed by the tiny tots and playing with computers was fun for the students of Grade P1. Over all it was a fun filled day for all.
Webinar on Healthy Digestive system by Yakult Almost all our health concerns can be traced back to our belly. Ensure a healthy gut and the rest will take care of itself. The above mentioned fact was well explained by the speakers from Yakult India, Ms. Anushka Sharma and Ms.Priyanka Kaushik, to the students of Grades P1-S3 in a webinar conducted on the Importance of Healthy Digestive System. They learnt about the benefits of consuming probiotics . Difference between good and bad bacteria was explained through a small video and how important it is for all of us to wash our hands in present time, was well reiterated. Open discussion session was also very interactive . Students learned many new concepts and realised the importance of good health. It was a great learning experience.
