PROPRIETARY & CONFIDENTIAL 7 2019 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT HONOREE JUDGE JUDY SHEINDLIN Judge Judith Sheindlin has presided over the Emmy® Award-winning “Judge Judy” since its debut in 1996. In addition to “Judge Judy” being the # 1 first-run syndicated program, it is also the highest-rated court program for every season it has been on the air. The broadcast was recognized with Daytime Emmy® Awards for “Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program” in 2013, 2016, and 2017. Born in Brooklyn, Sheindlin earned her law degree at New York Law School and was a New York City Family Court prosecutor when appointed to the Family Court bench in 1982 by Mayor Edward I. Koch. She became Supervising Judge in 1986 and heard more than 20,000 cases. During her years on the bench she earned a reputation for tough, no-nonsense jurisprudence, and established an “open court policy” which let the public and media view the family court process. Approached with the possibility of her own show after an appearance on “60 Minutes,” Sheindlin premiered as television’s “Judge Judy” on September 16, 1996, and later created other new productions, including the current hit, “Hot Bench,” now in its fifth season. Judge Sheindlin was honored for her trailblazing work with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, situated next to her good friend, actor Sidney Poitier. She’s also received the “Gracie Allen Tribute Award” from American Women in Radio and Television for her contributions to the broadcasting XXXX named after the late broadcasting pioneer. In 2012, Judge Sheindlin was inducted into the industry, and the “Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award” prestigious Broadcasting & Cable “Hall of Fame,” for her contributions to the TV business. A vivid and enduring presence in millions of American homes (“Who doesn’t love Judge Judy?” asked former President Barack Obama) Judge Sheindlin has been a guest on “Today,” “Good Morning America,” “Dateline NBC,” “Larry King Live,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “The Tonight Show,” “The Late Show,” “The View,” “Ellen” and “Entertainment Tonight.” The author of multiple bestselling books for adults and children, Sheindlin is also an active philanthropist. She is married to Judge Jerry Sheindlin, a former judge of the Supreme Court of New York. They have five children and 13 grandchildren.
PROPRIETARY & CONFIDENTIAL 8 2019 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT HONOREE CHEF JACQUES PÉPIN Jacques Pépin, 84, is an internationally recognized French-born American chef, television personality, and author. Since the late 1980s, he has appeared on French and American television and written an array of cookbooks that have become best sellers. The success of his book “La Technique,” used to this day as a textbook for teaching the fundamentals of French cuisine, prompted him to launch a televised version resulting in a 1997 PBS Series “The Complete Pepin.” In 1999, Pépin co-starred in the PBS series “Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home” alongside Julia Child. They were awarded a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Hosts in 2001. His show “Jacques Pépin: Fast Food My Way” (based on his 2004 book of the same name) ran on PBS, and “Jacques Pépin: More Fast Food My Way” is still broadcast on PBS’ Create. In “Essential Pepin” (2011), Pépin brings modern touches to some of his favorite recipes from his career. All of his programs have been produced by KQED-TV in San Francisco. Pépin was born in Bourg-en-Bresse, near Lyon in France. After World War II, his parents, Jeannette and Jean-Victor Pépin, owned the restaurant Le Pélican, where Pépin worked and became known for his love for food. He went on to work in Paris, training under Lucien Diat at the Plaza Athenee. From 1956 to 1958, during his military service, Pépin was the personal chef to three French heads of state, including Charles de Gaulle. A documentary about his life, “Jacques Pépin: The Art of Craft,” aired as part of the PBS series American Masters, premiering May 26, 2017. The film, narrated by Stanley Tucci, was produced and directed by Peter L. Stein, who had produced several of Pépin’s early television cooking series at KQED in the 1990s. In addition to the Daytime Emmy Award won with Julia Child, Pépin has received three of the French government’s honors: He is a Chevalier de L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (1997) and a Chevalier de L’Ordre du Mérite Agricole (1992). In October 2004, he received France’s Légion d’honneur. He has also received 24 James Beard Foundation awards. Pépin received his B.A. degree and his M.A. in French Literature from Columbia University’s School of General Studies. Pépin serves as dean of Special Programs at The International Culinary Center, founded as the French Culinary Institute, in New York City. Pépin resides with his wife, Gloria, in Connecticut.
PROPRIETARY & CONFIDENTIAL 9 SPECIAL TRIBUTE SESAME STREET TURNS 50 It all began in 1969 on a street where colorful Muppets and humans lived—and learned—side by side. Set against the backdrop of the civil rights movement and the war on poverty, Sesame Street was created to answer a simple question: could television be used to level the playing field and help prepare less advantaged children for school? The founders tapped educational advisors and researchers, entertainers and television producers, and other visionaries to create what became the longest-running children’s show in American television history. Ever since, Sesame Street has helped children around the world to learn, feel included and respect others. With a curriculum that evolves to meet the needs of every new generation, it is now a force for good in over 70 languages and 150 countries.
