CORE TERMS What core and elective terms does your facility offer PGY1? There are five Queensland Health terms for 2022 – four terms of 10 weeks and one term of 12 weeks (unless otherwise specified). There are five Queensland Health terms for 2022 – four terms of 10 weeks and one term of 12 weeks (unless otherwise specified). ROTATIONS Will there be opportunities to do term rotations at another facility? If yes, which facility/facilities will the rotation(s) be to? Interns may have the opportunity to rotate to: o Proserpine Hospital, for either a core Emergency Medicine term or a Rural Elective o Bowen Hospital for a Rural Elective o Mater Misericordiae Hospital Mackay, for either a core Surgical or Medical term o Private Practice JHOs may have the opportunity to rotate to: o Proserpine o Bowen o Sarina o Mater Misericordiae Hospital Mackay o Private Practice RURAL/COUNTRY RELIEVING Is rural/country relieving part of PGY1? No REMOTE CALL Does your facility require remote call? If yes, what are the conditions? No. Remote call is covered by other levels in each department as required. Does your facility require ward call? If yes, what are the conditions? Yes. Interns contribute to evening ward call (16:00 to 22:30 week days), weekends (08:00 to 22:30) and night ward call. EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS Does your facility provide educational sessions? If yes, what type of educational sessions and how often would they occur? Educational Activities include: Medical Education Unit (MEU) and Director of Clinical Training are supported by a Medical Education Registrar. What type of support does your facility provide for Interns? Support for Interns is provided by the following Medical Education Unit: Medical Administration / Medical Workforce: Rostered one on one interviews which offer personal and professional advice, Ready availability with personal and professional support for all doctors career counselling and a chance to provide feedback on work and training throughout the lifecycle of their MHHS experience, from recruitment to issues which need review. separation. WORKLOAD and OVERTIME What is the average workload per week for each compulsory and non-compulsory term? Is overtime required? If yes, will this be paid? As per the Medical Officers’ Certified Agreement (No. 5) 2018, RMOs are employed to work 76 hours per fortnight. All overtime, if authorized by a Consultant, is paid. NIGHT DUTY Does your facility require night duty? If yes, what are the conditions? Interns may be rostered night duty. LEAVE Am I able to take leave any time during the year or will I have to be part of a leave roster? Mackay Hospital and Health Service will have rostered leave in 2022. Leave blocks of five weeks will be aligned with term rotations and all preferences will be considered carefully before being rostered by the Medical Workforce and Medical Education Units. Do I need to negotiate my leave in advance? Who do I need to negotiate leave with and when do I need to do this by? As above. You will be able to provide information on your preference paperwork to inform us of your leave requirements. This paperwork will be provided prior to commencement. RELOCATION Does your facility provide financial assistance with relocation? Reasonable relocation costs will be reimbursed by Mackay Hospital and Health Service up to the value of $2500. ACCOMMODATION Does your facility provide accommodation or financial assistance with accommodation? Yes. Four weeks’ free hospital accommodation is provided, or $200 (per week for up to four weeks) accommodation allowance where accommodation is found by the individual. Is late start an option your facility can accommodate? No. SWAPPING or TRANSFERS Does your facility consider swapping or transfer requests? If yes, what are the terms and conditions associated with a swap or transfer? Swaps/transfers will be considered under exceptional circumstances and approved by the Manager Medical Workforce Unit. INTERN:CONSULTANT RATIO What is your facility’s average intern: consultant ratio? Interns would generally have 1:1 contact with consultants on a daily basis.
