BLACK HISTORY MONTH ADULT PROGRAMS Jackie Washington Day Join us for a Noon Hour Concert on Friday February 15 to celebrate the life and music of Hamilton’s own Jackie Washington. Blues master, musical pioneer and performer and Canada’s first black disc jockey, Washington remains an influential part of Hamilton’s music scene. This year we celebrate the 100th year since Washington's birth in 1919 and 10 years since his death in 2009, at age 89. We Need You! VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES @ HPL Hamilton Public Library is currently recruiting for several volunteer positions. More information and applications can be found at hpl.ca/volunteer-opportunities English Language Tutors Needed for Newcomer Learning Centre The Newcomer Learning Centre requires adult volunteers to help adult newcomers improve their English communication skills. Volunteers must have a good command of the English language, strong interpersonal skills, patience and be available to meet with an adult learner for two hours twice a week. Visiting Library Service Volunteers Deliver the joy of reading to someone who is not able to get to the library on their own. Adults with their own transportation, who can spare about three hours per month, are needed to deliver library materials, pick up finished items and ensure their customers are happy with what they are receiving.
