In Person Opportunities for Girls Girl Scout Get-Togethers Let’s get together — following coronavirus safety guidelines — for overnight events at Camp Pamunkey Ridge. The cost for each event includes overnight, meals, materials, supplies, in-person instruction and badge. Registration for each event will be capped at 100: 80 girls and 20 adults. Masking is required if participants cannot maintain social distancing. Sign up now in MyEvents. Mad Science - Camp Pamunkey Ridge • $35 May 14th - STEMazing ! 9:00-12:00 p.m. New Girl Scouts will have the opportunity D B J to experiment with four different areas of science during this 3-hour event. Learn what a polymer is and where they can find them in everyday things. Learn what makes magnets attract, experiment with how magnets affect compasses, and build a tower with magnetic coins. Girl Scouts will have a chance to experiment with plasma balls, see what types of materials are conductive, and play with static electricity. But, that’s not all! Girl Scouts will experiment with energy, discovering what energy is and where it comes from, with hands-on John Marshall House - Richmond experimentation. Girls will get to make their own June 4th - Robes of Justice bouncy ball to take home and receive a Mad Science ! One of many precedent- setting decisions, learn the history behind John Marshall’s black Supreme Court robe, and consider its symbolism. Girl Scouts will enjoy a tour of the house and learning more about the impact of Chief Justice John Marshall. In pairs or small groups, decorate your own black robes to wear on a Youth Supreme Court. John Marshall House - Richmond June 4th - Making up America: The Three Branches 1:00-3:00 p.m. $25 for Girl Scouts $15 for adults C S A Essential to understanding Chief Justice John Marshall is understanding the institution in which he worked: the federal government. With civics at the forefront, this program helps Girl Scouts strengthen their grasp of the three branches of government, understanding separation of power, and how the three branches interact—the process for which we can credit John Marshall. Triangle Rock Club Adventure Climbing for Cadettes March 19th | 10:00-12:00 p.m. $25 Adventure Climbing for Seniors and Ambassadors March 26th | 1:00-3:00 p.m. $25 C S A Triangle Rock Club’s Adventure Climbing Visit is a two-hour climb that includes rental harnesses and staff belayer assistance. Girls will get started in a reserved portion of the 28-foot-tall top rope walls and will learn the basics of climbing, review terminology, and practice belaying technique. Badge Video Library D B J C We’ve created a resource to help explore badges: an online library of easy- to-understand, engaging videos that take you step-by-step through badge requirements. Our Badge Video Library is available online and on-demand — available whenever you need it. Bonus: Many of the videos feature our wonderful camp counselors! Our badge videos can work for troops, whether you are meeting virtually or in person. The videos are also great for Girl Scouts who want to explore badges on their own. We currently offer badge videos for Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes. For each badge you choose, you will receive: • Access to fun, instructional videos that guide girls through the steps to earn the purchased badge. • Step-by-step instructions and a list of supplies needed to earn the badge. Every badge includes hands-on activities. • One badge mailed to the purchaser of the badge experience. Adult Training Get Outdoors! Beginning Camping April 9th | 9:00-3:00 p.m. Camp Pamunkey Ridge Let’s get your troop outside! The Beginning Camping course is designed for leaders and troops who have little camping experience and want to take their troop camping. Upon completion of this course, you will be certified to take your Girl Scout Troop on a camping trip in the backyard, in a permanent structure such as a cabin at a state park, or Girl Scout Camp. The course follows progression in the outdoors and is specifically designed for Daisy, Brownie and Junior Leaders. We can't wait to see you at training! This course takes place in a single day. Registration for Beginning Camping will be in S’more News. Those who seek to have camp training enabling them to take their troop cabin or tent camping should attend the Intermediate Camping course. Intermediate Camping Required Prep Session: April 19th at 6:00-9:00 p.m. April 29th - May 1st (Friday optional), 9:00 a.m. Saturday - 1:00 p.m. Sunday Camp Pamunkey Ridge Your girls want more outdoor adventure! The Intermediate Camping course is designed for leaders/ troop volunteers seeking to take their troop tent camping. This course will give leaders/volunteers hands-on experiences so they can successfully lead girls on outdoor experiences for multiple nights. Girl Scouts has a lot to offer through outdoor experiences and you will gain knowledge, skills, and prac- tical experience to prepare you to plan and manage overnight camping adventures. During this training you will cover many topics including: firestarters and how to use them, basic wood fires, basic gear and sleeping bags for overnights, cooking a simple meal, washing dishes outdoors, programming outdoors, and a tour of camp. This course takes place across two days and includes an overnight at camp as well as a required prep session held approximately two weeks prior to the Intermediate Camping course weekend.
