The band program started the year off with a three-week virtual marching band camp that had students learning a brand new set of music when our competitive season was canceled. These virtual practices culminated in a collaborative effort that produced a fully virtual marching band performance of the Panic at the Disco! hit, "High Hopes". This song, along with Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now", Stevie Wonder classic "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing" and Elton John's "I'm Still Standing" represented the feelings we had throughout the year. Our Color Guard program worked very hard during the winter season and performed in four virtual competitions from February to April. The students were recorded in the PHS gym and the videos were submitted to the contest circuit coordinators. Performances were viewed online and results for each event were shared digitally. Pattonville's winter guard program competed in a division higher than the previous year, which is an indication of a continuing rise in program quality. PHS winter guard members will use this season's experience to prepare for the 2022 WGI World Championships. Multiple online performances (fully virtual or recorded and streamed), several online clinic sessions with professional performers and educators, in-person performances at PHS sporting events and a fully virtual MSHSAA State Music Festival were events that enabled PHS Band members to shine. Our PHS band holiday concert was distributed to the public in December, 2020 and was viewed more than 800 times. Additional performances were recorded and streamed online throughout the year. Five students (Daniel Mamrenko, Seth Miranda, Ethan Massey, Holly Jones and Daniel Enberg) earned awards for outstanding musicianship at the "Jazz in the Meadows" fully-virtual jazz festival hosted by Rolling Meadows HS in Rolling Meadows, IL , eight students earned all-suburban recognition for band/jazz band (Patrick Ferguson, Sydney Suvansri, Max McFarland, Simon Wacker, Daniel Enberg, Alyssa Koller, Kyle Manker, Isabelle Usry), two students earned all- state honorable mention (Sydney Suvansri and Daniel Enberg) and one student (Max McFarland) was earned a spot in the all-state jazz band. The PHS band was proud to provide Pattonville's first in-person music performance to a live audience on May 11, 2021--the first on-campus concert since February, 2020. Our end-of-year PHS band awards night was hosted outdoors under "The Bridge" on May 6, 2021 and recognized students with fun superlative awards along with academic and musical achievement awards. At the time of our awards night, 104 students in our PHS band program had a semester 2 GPA of 3.0 or higher (52 were 4.0 or higher). We are so inspired by the tenacity, creativity, compassion and character that our students displayed during this challenging year. They met and overcame every obstacle and achieved greatness throughout the entire school year. We look forward to maintaining relationships with our band alumni and look forward to more exciting opportunities in the 2021-22 school year. The Pattonville Color Guard programs consisted of 16 students across all four grade levels and did an excellent job of growing during the 2021 school. All safety guidelines were followed while we put together both a Winter show and a spring production with the Marching Band. We look forward to growing the program and showing off more of our "Patttonville Pride" next year. Band Program Playbook 34

Pattonville High School MSHSAA Areas of Focus 2021-22 We have analyzed our past and current areas of focus, and have narrowed them to five key ideas that will guide us moving forward regarding athletics/ activities 1. Continued evaluation regarding the state of the current programming being offered to students 2. Coaching/sponsor professional learning and growth 3. Improving student readiness for high school athletic/activities success 4. Effectively engaging parents and community regarding athletics and activities 5. Promoting and showcasing student success in after school programs Focus Area 1 Continued evaluation regarding the state of the current programming being offered to students ● Review all survey data with coaches and sponsors at the conclusion of each season ○ During annual coaches’ meetings data taken from the end of season surveys along with summer camp survey data is reviewed including the areas of strength and areas of growth. ○ Utilize data to analyze, evaluate and address a downward trend in overall student after school program participation with attention to COVID barriers. ● Plan for potential facility improvements ○ Generate ideas for improving aesthetics (graphics, banners, wall quotes, signs). Gather best practices models from other high school and college campuses. ○ Evaluate current facility needs and identify areas of immediate and future need. ● Continue to stay up to date on current trends involving COVID-19 precautions ○ Cooperate with our ATC, lead nurse, St. Louis County, and others as new COVID-19 data models impacting athletics and activities are presented, and regulations are adjusted to students as safe as possible while participating in after school programming Focus Area 2 Coaching/sponsor professional learning and growth • Identify and implement coaching professional development o Institute offseason head coaching/sponsor meetings to plan and prepare for the upcoming seasons. Take proactive actions in anticipating changes in programs. o Begin a coaching mentor program where experienced coaches/sponsors can impart knowledge to newer coaches/sponsors. This will help ensure some continuity as new coaches and sponsors come onboard and other coaches and sponsors phase out. • Actively seek highly qualified coaching candidates and sponsors for upcoming vacancies (career fairs, college days, connections with peers) o Through constant communication, we will be able to identify areas where we may need to fill vacancies in our programs. Pattonville has plenty to offer new teachers, coaches and sponsors and should continue to be a sought-after district for employment. • Implementation of technology throughout all programs o Pattonville is viewed throughout the area for being an innovator in technology and carrying that into our after-school programs is crucial in continuing to earn that reputation. o Lead PHS staff by encouraging coaches use of technology mediums such as communication apps, YouTube, and social media. o Incorporate practice reviews, livestreaming events for the community, and track stats by using our Hudl cameras and accounts. Continue association with Daktronics to update and manage new and current scoreboards. o Encourage coaches to discover and share current and future tech advances that may benefit the program as a whole. 39
