Dear Girl Scout Families, Whether you and your Girl Scout are just beginning to explore all that GSCWM has to offer, or you’re practically an expert when it comes to the great outdoors, you know about the life- changing, memory-making awesomeness that is camp. There are exciting opportunities at camp for all girls to unplug, learn new skills, discover their sense of self, and exercise independence in a safe, girl-led environment. With camp experiences packed full of Girl Scout tradition—and exciting activities from boating and swimming to high adventure and STEM—there’s something waiting for every girl at camp this year! Today, girls live in a world of screens—smartphones, laptops and TV—and sometimes they just want and need to get away from it all. That’s why camp is a magical experience; an opportunity to truly escape and focus on building courage, confidence and character. Build a campfire, pitch a tent or canoe across a lake. Explore the outdoors in the wetlands, complete a challenge course and shoot a bulls-eye in archery. Attending camp is consistently cited as girls’ favorite memories of their Girl Scout years and is one of my favorite memories of being a Girl Scout for 30 years. By sending your girl to camp, she will develop leadership and outdoor skills and develop a deep appreciation for our natural world. Girl Scout camp gives girls an opportunity to grow, explore and have fun under the guidance of caring, trained adults. When your camper attends one of our G.I.R.L.-Tastic camps, she joins 100 years of sisterhood and tens of thousands of Girl Scouts (including many of our summer staff members!) who have found lifelong friendships, discovered their strengths, challenged themselves, made lasting memories, and returned home with an all-new love for our amazing outdoors. So give your girl the gift of camp—you’ll be amazed at what a little time outdoors does to develop her courage and confidence, from the classroom to the boardroom and beyond. I can’t wait to see you this summer and discover the magic of camp together! Katie “KC” Chappell Program Manager Camp like a G.I.R.L. GSCWM Girl Scout Camps 2
ACA ACCREDITATION AND SAFETY/HEALTH REGULATIONS Accreditation means that the camp undergoes a thorough review process by outside camping professionals every five years (last on site visit was in 2017 for CBB, 2018 for CGE and CLP.) The American Camp Association is the world’s premier organization dedicated to promoting the safety and quality of camp programs. Camp Bonnie Brae, Camp Green Eyrie, and Camp Lewis Perkins are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) and meet its high standards for program design and activities, site and food service, transportation, health and wellness, operation management, and human resources. However, all GSCWM camps maintain the same high levels of safety and quality in camp programming by following ACA guidelines. In addition to the safety guidelines outlined by the American Camp Association and Girl Scouts of the USA, all GSCWM camps comply with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and are licensed by local boards of health. For more information about these state regulations, call 617-624-5757. GIRL WITH SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS: Girl Scouts want all girls to have the opportunity for a great camp experience, and we will do our best to accommodate all Girl Scout campers. Campers with special accommodations can have a positive camp experience if the caregiver communicates with the camp administrator and their staff prior to camp. If your camper has any special medical, physical, emotional, developmental, social or other special circumstances, please contact the GSCWM Program Manager Katie Chappell, at kchappell@gscwm.org or 508-749-3604 to discuss any concerns before registering for camp to see which program may best serve your Girl Scout. OPEN HOUSES: We believe that camp has positive impacts on our G.I.R.L.s, and we also believe that there is something about being in the outdoors where you make new friends, try new things, and laugh until you cry that speaks to The POWER of CAMP …. Come explore camp with your family during our open house session, learn a few camp songs and have s’mores. Members of our camp team are available to answer any questions. This is a great way to see what camp looks like before the summer begins! Open houses and Meet the Staff days, take place rain or shine.
