14th ENT Danube Symposium / 20 – 23 June 2018 Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, dear Colleagues, dear Industry Partners! I am honored to announce the 14th ORL Danube Sympo- sium, which will be held in the heart of Austria, in Krems between the 20th and the 23rd of June 2018. Krems is located in the breathtaking world heritage region „Wachau“. The Symposium will be organised by the University Hospital St. Poelten and my team. The educational and scientific program will highlight the whole spectrum of our discipline with an emphasis on the exchange of knowledge and expiri- ence whitin the Danube region. Congress attendees will have the chance to benefit from scientific exchange during either the formal activities or the informal meetings with colleagues from different countries. We will also have the chance to relax thanks to the opportunities provided by the multiple cul- tural events, the beautiful landscape and by the superb gastronomic tradition. The Wachau is an Austrian valley with a picturesque landscape formed by the Danube river. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations of Lower Austria, located midway between the towns of Melk and Krems that also at- tracts "connoisseurs and epicureans" for its high-quality wines. I am looking forward to welcoming you at the 14th ORL Danube Symposium in Krems 2018! Yours sincerely, Prim. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Georg M. Sprinzl President of the ENT Danube Society www.danube-symposium2018.com

14th ENT Danube Symposium / 20 – 23 June 2018 Letter from the Governor of Lower Austria Thinking outside the box broadens our horizons In my capacity as Governor of Lower Austria, I am happy to see that, after two decades, the ENT Danube Sym- posium has returned to Austria. Once again, the City of Krems proves to be ideally positioned to host such an international event. I hope that the participants of the 14th ENT Symposium will not only benefit professionally from the medical programme, but also have a chance to experience the varied attractions of our region, such as the Museum Mile in Krems, the Culture District of St. Pölten, the musical events at Grafenegg, and the beautiful landscape of the Wachau valley. Providing high-quality medical care has a great potential for savings in the health-care sector, as it eliminates the need for follow-up treatment and thus reduces costs. The 14th ENT Danube Symposium, attended by physicians from all over Austria and the neighbouring countries, makes an essential contribu- tion toward ensuring that patients receive the best possible medical care. The health-care sector is confronted with a range of difficult and many-faceted issues that demand regular exchanges of information between experts, phy- sicians and academics as an indispensable prerequisite for the high level of quality and commitment required in patient care. Let me also pay tribute to the outstanding commitment shown by the organ- isers of this scientific event. In my capacity as Governor of Lower Austria, I wish to extend my sincere thanks to Professor Dr. Georg M. Sprinzl and his team, who have made this conference possible. I am confident that the Danube Symposium will meet with the interest it deserves, and I wish the participants every success in their important work. Johanna Mikl-Leitner Governor of Lower Austria www.danube-symposium2018.com
14th ENT Danube Symposium / 20 – 23 June 2018 Letter from the Mayor of the City of Krems Dear visitors, it is an honour and a great pleasure to welcome you in our town as participants of the 14th ENT Danube Sympo- sium. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the organizer of this conference, Prim. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Georg Sprinzl, for choosing Krems as location for this event. Why Krems? Since the opening of the Danube University more than twenty years ago, the city has established itself as a site for science with an out- standing reputation. As home to the University Of Applied Sciences which offers professional medical training, the Danube University, the DPU Private Dental University, and the Karl Landsteiner Private University for Medicine, Krems has developed as a hub for health science research. In addition, Krems has always been highly regarded as host of internationally attended conven- tions and science conferences. As urban center for the UNESCO World Heri- tage Site Wachau, Krems is renowned for its rich art offering, including the Kunsthalle, the Caricature Museum and more, and its impressive package of culture, leisure and experience, which in this quality you would otherwise only expect to find in a major city. So what could be more natural than for our beautiful town to stage the 14th ENT Danube Symposium? I wish you an interesting and enriching event in Krems, and a lot of new in- sights and experiences to take home with you. But I also hope that you will find the time outside of the conference programme to gather many positive impressions and enjoy the diverse opportunities Krems has to offer. Dr. Reinhard Resch, MSc Mayor of the City of Krems www.danube-symposium2018.com
14th ENT Danube Symposium / 20 – 23 June 2018 ABOUT KREMS Krems an der Donau is the eastern gateway to the Wachau Valley, one of Europe's loveliest river landscapes. It is also one of the oldest cities in the land. This history extending back more than a thousand years is evident ev- erywhere – in the streets and squares, in the old monasteries and churches, in the town houses and fortifications. The historical center of Krems is one of the most beautiful in Europe. Over the centuries, builders and architects have created a unique cityscape here that has been lovingly cared for and preserved. These efforts have not gone unnoticed. In 1975 Krems was singled out as a "Model City for Historical Preservation" and in 2000 it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. With all this history, you might think that the city is dominated by the past. In reality, Krems is very open to modern life: Contemporary art and culture play an important role here, adding variety and energy to public areas throughout the city. www.danube-symposium2018.com
14th ENT Danube Symposium / 20 – 23 June 2018 Enjoying the Arts Krems has a diverse calendar of events as a festival venue. Thousands of visi- tors flock to Krems year after year to attend the Danube Festival, East-West Music Festival, Wachau Film Festival, Children's and Young People's Theater Festival, Cabarett Festival and the many other musical and theatrical events staged here. The city wine museum, housed in one of the most beautiful monasteries in the land, has a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. Krems also has a Arts Mile featuring the Caricature Museum, Kunsthalle Krems, the Lower Austrian Literature Center and a number of other culture institutions with a diverse lineup of special events. Economy and Education Krems also has a rich tradition as an economic and educational center. Its Bio Science Park is an attractive location for companies engaged in bio-tech and in application-oriented research. As the site of the Danube University, the IMC University of Applied Sciences, the Danube Private University and a broad range of secondary schools, Krems is a major center of Austrian education.
