History – SUTD Game Lab • Established in 2012 – To continue the work of the Singapore-MIT GAMBIT Game Lab, funded by NRF under Game Research, Education and Training (GREaT) Funding initiative à to pioneer a unique model of game experimentation, education, and training that will propel the Singapore game landscape to new height. • In 2018, following the success of the initial 5 year seed grant: à Research Institute, supported by SUTD and individual research projects. Research focus on AI, AR and VR in gamification for education, AI/Robotics, healthcare.
Objectives Provide state-of-the-art skills and expertise in user-centric game design for serious AR/VR games in the field of education, robotics/AI, and healthcare, and further research this field. Deliver commercially ready gamified systems through collaboration with industry and faculty, and thus reinforce the capability of SUTD in these cutting-edge domains. Outreach and education through workshops, conferences, and teaching.

Serious games Serious games are user-centric and designed for a primary purpose other than pure entertainment. Yet, they motivate players to learn, or perform a task. Our focus areas: - Education - Healthcare - Environment - Marketing - Virtual testbed for robotics and AI
Management training game Stranded In collaboration with SMU Experience three types of management styles first hand. Playful learning is known to increase knowledge retention.
Raise Awareness about the defibrilator Informing people about things that matter Code Blue: Sometimes having a hands-on interaction is the best way to appreciate a subject matter.
Game for dementia patients Piece by piece Puzzle pieces kept getting lost. This game can be played on any tablet. In collaboration with Changi General Hospital.
National Science Experiment Nationwide program to gather data Asthma Knight The game challenges students to carry an Air Quality Device as often as possible – by REWARDING them with in-game items as they walk around more! The game encourages the player to monitor and take actions to improve the air quality.
Rehab exercise game Motivate patients to perform exercises longer and better. Game play is driven by letting patients move the phone up and down.
Promoting SUTD Kinetikos Puzzle game developed for SUTD Marketing Showcased at Open Day 2018 Available on Play Store and iOS
Promoting SUTD Campus in Bloom Campaign at SUTD that provides a unique opportunity for donors to make a green investment and a gift of education.
Game Lab’s objectives • Assist faculty in bringing their research projects to commercial quality gamification and/or to include AR/VR technologies, with a focus on AI and AR/VR. • Research in AI gamification technology. • Demonstrate capabilities of SUTD in AR/VR and gamification with novel technologies to the general public and scientific community. • Develop state-of-the-art gamification of education customized to the SUTD curriculum. • Consult and advise faculty, students, and researchers of SUTD on game design, AR/VR through informal workshops and offer assistance in classes if needed.

DBS Game Dev Conference • Co-organised with DBS • 206 registered participants • Brought together over 20 industry experts to provide insights and advice on what an aspiring game developer needs to know to embark on a career in games “...appreciate that DBS and SUTD partnered for such a ground-breaking event, which SG has needed for a long time.”
