It was a fantastic evening with amazing individual efforts. Special mention must go to Luke Redding who broke the record for the 11 years 50m Freestyle, a record held since 1981! The night ended with the relays which were nail-bitingly exciting. The Junior Girls came an agonisingly close 4th while the Junior Boys won their event and will therefore progress to the Western Car- nival. Both the Senior Boys (2nd) and Senior Girls (3rd) relay teams will join them. I was impressed watching the students compete and the DCS Team should be very proud of their efforts. Dunedoo did so well, they took out the 2019 Handicap Trophy. An amazing effort for our small school! Thanks to the par- ents who came along and enjoyed the night, and to Mrs Shepherd for time- keeping for the evening. Congratulations to the following students who have progressed through to the next level of competition, the Western Carnival on Thursday, 14th March. We wish you all the best! Congratulations to all of the students who received Merit Awards at to- days Assembly. Today we not only recognised students who have achieved in the classroom, library and playground, but we also award- ed certificates to our Swimming Champions, Yr 12 Hospitality and Pri- mary Industries students and individuals who participated and achieved excellent results in Junior Judging and the Lions Youth of the year competitions. It was great to see our Rock Band performing, utilising some of the guitars do- nated by Rural Aid and The Gift of Music. Thank you to Mr Snell and the students for a wonderful performance. Our Primary swimming team achieved some outstanding results at last weeks Dubbo District car- nival, winning the overall Handicap Trophy. We also had excellent results in the relay teams with three teams qualifying for Western Region. A number of students performed exceptionally well in their individual races, with Luke Redding breaking the 50 m Freestyle record which had been held since 1981. I wish all students from Primary and Secondary who will be competing at the Western Region Carnival in Dubbo in Week 7 the best of luck and encourage students to contin- ue training in preparation for this event. Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the Junior Judging competition at the Mudgee Show last Friday. Skye Leeson—placed first in the Poultry section and second in the grain judging; Ned Inder placed second in the Merino Fleece judging. Well done to all of the students who participated and thank you to Mrs Piper for taking the students. Yesterday Sally Christensen and Georgia Lane competed in the Regional Final of the Lions Youth of the Year competition at Mus- wellbrook with two students from Muswellbrook High School. Both students attended a 30 minute interview followed by the Public Speaking competition. The girls had two impromptu speeches which were: “What is the best life lesson you have learnt so far?” and “If you were able to time travel back 100 years, what would you change?”. Following this the girls delivered their prepared speeches. Each of the girls excelled in both the Interviews and the Public Speaking and were excellent ambassadors for our school and community. Georgia was awarded the Public Speaking and Overall winner. At todays Merit Assembly, I was fortunate to take delivery of a de- fibrillator donated by Mr Brian Bowman and family to the Lions Club and in turn to Dunedoo Central School. Brian has previously required the use of a Defibrillator and knows how important it is to have access to this vital piece of equipment in close proximity with- in the community. I would like to sincerely thank both the Bowman Family and the Dunedoo Lions Club for this very generous dona- tion. Mrs Donna Lane Principal

Unfortunately HEAD LICE has been detected. We suggest you check your child’s hair. If necessary please treat accordingly making sure all lice and eggs are removed. It is im- portant to repeat the treatment 7 days after the initial treatment to break the head lice cycle. Kinder: Congratulations to today’s award winners at the Whole School Merit Assembly. These as- semblies, which happen in the middle and at the end of each school term, recognise student achievement and citizenship. Well done Kindergarten: the results from the first few weeks of spelling have been fantastic. Many students received two new words today and their rockets have moved up the wall already! If your child has one word that is the same as last week, please keep practicing it with them at home and he/she will try spelling it again on Friday. This week the class will be working with time in Maths including the days of the week, continuing the great start to writing stations in morning literacy and focussing on families in History. I have been very impressed with the cutting and pasting activities I have set the children these last few weeks. This is a skill obviously well practiced at home and at preschool. Book Fair has arrived at DCS! I will take the class for a visit this week and help them to write a wish list. Many things are for sale including books, posters and trinkets. Book Fair comes to school only twice a year and is open before and after school until next Tuesday. Have a great week. Mr Ben Kline - Classroom Teacher Year 1/2: This week we are exploring words with "ph" and "ar" . Our Daily 5 rotations are working well and students are showing their progressions for learning every day. We are continuing our science unit on Watch it Grow and our HSIE unit on Weather and Seasons. We are consolidating our knowledge of nouns including common nouns and proper nouns. Thank you to all students who remember to bring their library books back on Monday. The library is always an exciting place to go. Last week we started to learn about typing into a word document and inserting a picture. We hope to finish our work this week and print it out to bring home. Have a great week. Ms Michelle Gavin - Classroom Teacher
Year 3-4-5 S: Our morning writing activities are already showing results, as students who at first could manage only a few sentences in the time given are now writing half a page! Proofreading and editing is still a work in progress, however, students are discovering the importance of reading back through their work. Artwork is beginning to fill the back wall, and students are continuing to show excel- lent team work and cooperation in daily tasks. This is fantastic to see, and skills that will support them through life. Homework returns have been outstanding, and I encourage all students to keep working on this. 5 weeks of homework = 1 ACE token. This week’s homework sheet contains a parent survey, just to check how your child is going and to make sure we are on the right track with homework tasks. Enjoy your week. Mrs Georgia Shephard - Classroom Teacher Year 3-4-5 G: After another fantastic Professional Development course on Seven Steps to Writing. I am feeling excited and enthusiastic about our work on Narratives. We have been looking at different parts of a narrative and really focusing on the sizzling starters. This is the beginning of the nar- rative that captures the readers attention. We have done so many different fun activities that have really engaged the whole class. We also did a step by step tutorial on how to draw a realistic eye, which were all fantastic and are on dis- play in our classroom. Well done to our swimmers on Thursday night and those that are now off to Western, I am very proud of each one of you. Well done to Caylum our leader in Dojo this week! Mrs Tammy Gallagher – Classroom Teacher Year 6: Hello everyone and welcome back to Week 6, Term 1! Today we had our first Whole School Merit Assembly for 2019. It was very encouraging to see so many students receive awards in recognition for their effort and hard work so far this term. Congratulations also to all the swimmers that represented DCS at the District Swimming Carnival last week. I am pleased to say that we have a record amount of swimmers who have now qualified for the Western carnival next week in Dubbo! Permission notes were handed out on Friday and need to be returned ASAP. P.S – I will be taking names down today for interested students (boys/girls) in Senior Primary who would like to try out for our DCS Cricket Team. We will train this week in preparation for our first game against Dubbo South. Have a great week every- body! Cheers, Mr Adam Honeysett Year 6 Maths: This week in Maths we are continuing to work with Time. The homework sheet again has optional extension questions but I have included 2 KenKen Puzzles with instructions for every- one. We have done some of these in class so students should be familiar with them. Our homework raffle was drawn last week and congratulations to Karly Green who was the lucky winner. Homework sheets must be completed and submitted on time to earn a ticket in the raffle. Year 11 Geography Field Trip On Thursday 21st February 2019, Year 11 Geography and I travelled to Dubbo to undertake a field trip, canoeing on the Macquarie River. 5 DCS students joined 21 students from Kinross Wolaroi for this biophysical excursion. The idea of the fieldwork was to examine human induced changes impacting our rivers natural processes. We did this by canoeing for over 3 hours from Butlers Falls to Sandy Beach (near the sport field). A great day was had by all even if my legs were left sunburnt. Mr O’Brien
