the astonishing range of music that’s on the program, and yet kind of sad to end this fabulous

Let the people praise thee, O God; How cold are thy baths, Apollo! How cold are thy baths, Apollo!
Yea, let all the people praise thee. Cried the African monarch, the splendid, Cried the Poet, unknown, unbefriended,
O let the nations rejoice and be glad, As down to his death in the hollow As the vision, that lured him to follow,
For thou shalt judge the folk righteously, Dark dungeons of Rome he descended, With the mist and the darkness blended,
And govern the nations upon earth.                                                                       Uncrowned, unthroned, unattended;                                   And the dream of this life was ended;
How cold are thy baths, Apollo! How cold are thy baths, Apollo!
Then shall the earth bring forth her increase,
And God, even our own God, shall give us his blessing.
God shall bless us and all the ends of the world shall fear him.
God be merciful unto us, and bless us: Greensleeves . . . . . . . . . . . Arranged by Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958)

Song for Athene . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . By John Tavener (1944-2013) I bought thee petticoats,

Alleluia, Alleluia I gave thee jewels for thy chest, And who but my lady greensleeves
May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest, Alleluia, Alleluia And all this cost I spent on thee, Ah.
Remember me O Lord, when you come into your kingdom, Alleluia, Alleluia
Give rest O Lord to your handmaid, who has fallen asleep, Alleluia, Alleluia Greensleeves is all my joy

The reckless delight of that wildest of dances,
That wildest of dances, Another day has gone, I’m still all alone.
The reckless delight! How could this be, you’re not here with me?
You never said goodbye, someone tell me why,
Once more, gondolieri, both skilful and wary, Did she have to go and leave my world so cold?
Free from this quandary, contented are we.
From Royalty flying, our gondolas plying Every day I sit and ask myself how did this thing end?
And merrily crying our “preme”, “stali”! Something whispers in my ear and says...
You are not alone, I am here with you
So goodbye, cachuca, fandango, bolero,
We’ll dance a farewell to that measure; Though you’re far away, I am here to stay.
Old Xeres, adieu, Manzanilla, Montero, You are not alone, I am here with you
We leave you with feelings of pleasure! Though we’re far apart, you’re always in my heart.
                                                                                                   But you are not alone.
Once more, gondolieri, both skilful and wary,
Free from this quandary, contented are we.
