The Rotary Club of Annapolis President, Rob Dews Rotarians strive to answer the "call to serve" others and purposes greater than us in our personal, business, and community lives. The Rotary Club of Annapolis consists of 160 members committed to serving through our many community programs, volunteer efforts, and support of other service-based organizations. Each year, the Black Tie and Diamonds event is the culmination of year-long planning to recognize and raise funds for a non-profit organization that provides essential services to improve the lives of fellow citizens. We are pleased to partner this year with the Annapolis Police Foundation, an organization that certainly understands the importance of the call to serve, support and protect our communities. The mission of the Annapolis Police Foundation is to assist the community of Annapolis, Maryland, by raising charitable funds to support the Annapolis Police Department in increasing the capacity and improving the effectiveness of police programs and community outreach activities. The Annapolis Police Foundation's main priorities are to support the development of trust between the members of the Annapolis Police Department and the communities they serve. These priorities are manifested through the Annapolis Community Resource Centers and community efforts such as the Re-entry Program, Summer Sailing Camp, Joven Noble Camp, Shop with a Cop, Fish with a Cop, Drive Thru Community Food Pantries, Community Services Transport, and the Faith and Blue Program. The Annapolis Police Foundation works behind the scenes in its honorable mission of assisting the Annapolis Police "build bridges to communities and bonds with residents" of all ages and backgrounds. Their volunteers are selfless but impactful, epitomizing Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self." The Rotary Club of Annapolis is honored to recognize the Annapolis Police Foundation as the beneficiary of the 20th Annual "Black Tie and Diamonds" Gala. Thank you for being our guests. We hope you have a grand time this evening and are "called to serve" through your support of this noble organization and its efforts to build safer communities.
Annapolis Police Foundation Co-Founder and Chair, Brian Finan It has been my honor, as Co-Founder and Chair of the Annapolis Police Foundation, to support the Annapolis Police in helping to strengthen relationships between Annapolis residents through community engagement, since the inception of the Foundation in 2019. This past year has been a busy one for the Foundation and Annapolis Police community outreach as we have helped to support over 750 community events. These included everything from movie nights, food trailer neighborhood visits, summer camps, fishing excursions and “Shop with A Cop” visits to Old Navy for back-to-school clothes, and to Target in December 2022 where 44 children got to select presents for their family members. One of our favorite events is inviting middle school children to prepare food alongside police officers at area restaurants. This gives our youth a chance to learn about nutritious food choices and food preparation while getting to know the local police officers who serve our community. We have worked with local restaurants to bring this to our youth. Recently the Foundation assisted with the startup of a youth boxing program at Pip Moyer recreation center in partnership with the US Naval Academy Boxing Team and a local boxer. The Annapolis Police Foundation would like to thank the Rotary Club of Annapolis and the Foundation team for their tireless efforts in organizing this event and for year-round support of our endeavors. Gratefully, the significant financial investment from Rotary and with the volunteer support here tonight, we will create a better Annapolis for our youth where opportunity and experiences will enhance their self-worth and underscore the confidence that law enforcement personnel are indeed an ally in their lives.
