29 March 2018 1 LATEST NEWS AND PROJECT UPDATES 1.1 Henley High School Cultural Mural Collaboration between Renee Singh, Cultural Diversity and Inclusion Consultant at Intercultural Connections, Henley High School and Aboriginal Contemporary Artist Scott Rathman has resulted in a wonderful piece of artwork at Henley High School as part of the Place Maker grants program. Each image has relevance to interculturalism and the background colours are the various landscapes of Kaurna land. An official opening will take place at Henley High School on Thursday 12 April 2018. 1.2 Waste Transfer Station Opening Soon Stage 1 of the new recycling and waste centre is nearing completion and will be handed to Council in the first week of April. Stage 2 of the work will continue through April and the complete project will be finished in May 2018. 1.3 St Clair Recreation Centre Update Building work is continuing onsite including the following - Concrete footing work, Structural steel for the new building area and the heritage building, Underfloor Plumbing and Electrical, Also the court 6 concrete floor has been poured ready for the remainder of the structural steel building frame. 1.4 New laws for cat and dog owners will come into effect on 1 July 2018. • Mandatory microchipping of cats and dogs • Desexing of dogs and cats born after the 1 July 2018 • New rules for breeders who sell dogs and cats • Introduction of a State-wide database, called Dogs and Cats Online. These new laws and rules will simplify dog registration process, make it easier to reunite lost dogs and cats with their owners, help identify and put a stop to puppy farms and reduce euthanasia rates. Microchipping From 1 July, owners must microchip their dogs and cats by 12 weeks of age or at the point of sale. Veterinarians may exempt an animal for medical reasons. Owners are encouraged to take advantage of the numerous discount microchipping days throughout the state. Visit chipblitz.com for upcoming dates, locations and to make a booking. Upcoming Council Microchipping Days: 28 April 2018 - Albert Greenshields Reserve (10am-5pm) 23 June 2018 – Civic Centre (9.30am-4pm) 4 August 2018 – Doggy Day on the Green, Point Malcolm Reserve (1pm-4.30pm) Desexing Dogs and cats born after the 1 July must be desexed by 6 months of age or 28 days after purchase by the owner. Working livestock dogs as well as dogs and cats owned by registered breeders will be exempt from the requirement to desex; however will still need to be microchipped. Breeders People who breed dogs and cats for sale after 1 July 2018 must register with the Dog and Cat Management Board as a breeder. Your breeder registration number must be included in all advertisements for a dogs and cats. There are new requirements to disclose the breeder registration number and other information to the buyer at the point of sale. All breeders are required to follow the new industry standards and guidelines. Dogs and Cats Online From 1 July 2018, Dogs and Cats Online will be the central database for microchipped and registered dogs and cats and registration payments. Dogs and Cats Online will also be the register of breeders. Existing dog owners should receive a renewal notice in the mail during July 2018 with their dog’s new lifetime registration disc (replacing the annual disc) and instructions on how to complete their annual dog registration on Dog and Cats Online. 1.5 Torrens Road to River Torrens (T2T) North-South Corridor This year, a number of significant milestones have already been delivered across the Torrens Road to River Torrens Project, including: • Major pavement reinstatement works on South Road southbound between Torrens Road and Susan Street. • Upgrade of the Outer Harbor and Grange rail lines between Chief Street and Queen Street, including the Croydon Station. • Installation of bridge planks for the widening of Taylor Bridge. • Installation of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) infrastructure, which will display travel times and messages for road users. • Services relocation works, including the undergrounding of electricity infrastructure and removal of more than 200 stobie poles. • Kerbing, footpath and pavement works between Hawker Street and Forster Street, and from Manton Street to Susan Street. 1.5 Torrens Road to River Torrens (T2T) North-South Corridor continued Community information drop in day A Community Information Drop In Day and sausage sizzle will be held on Saturday 14 April from 11am to 2pm at the T2T Alliance Project site office on Ridley Street, Hindmarsh. (Please note that there is limited parking available on Ridley Street). The event is held as a result of funding from the City of Charles Sturt. 2.2 Henley Square Lights Henley Square traders are looking forward to replacement of the catenary lighting system, which is anticipated to take place in April. This is being undertaken at no expense to the City of Charles Sturt. 2.3 Marine Discovery Centre Funding The Marine Discovery Centre, based at Star of the Sea School, Henley Beach, is seeking $30,000 funding from the City of Charles Sturt to cover a shortfall. 2.4 History of Flinders Park subdivision adjoining Holbrooks Rd ABC Afternoons, in response to a question from a listener, sought information on the history of the subdivision of Flinders Park which has resulted in odd-shaped allotments fronting Holbrooks Road. 2.5 Estcourt House, Tennyson The City of Charles Sturt assessment panel has rejected an application seeking demolition of the heritage-listed Estcourt House at Tennyson, to the relief of heritage advocates and descendants of Fredrick Estcourt Bucknall. 4 LGA CIRCULARS Index for Report No.12 16 March 2018 12.1 Roadworks regulations – information and forum for councils The State Government’s new roadworks permit scheme will commence on 1 June 2018. This Circular provides more information and details of an information session for councils. 12.2 2018 SA Tourism Awards Nominations close 25 June 2018 The South Australian Tourism Awards are presented by the South Australian Tourism Industry Council. With over 30 award categories, the Awards celebrate and acknowledge tourism businesses that have demonstrated outstanding achievement and success throughout the year. 12.3 Illegal Dumping The LGA would like to advocate that the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) provide financial support to assist councils with the liability associated with illegally dumped waste. This Circular provides further details as to how the LGA is seeking councils’ assistance to develop a business case. 12.4 LGA Board Meeting 22 March 2018 - Agenda available The LGA Board will meet on Thursday 22 March 2018 at Regional Council of Goyder, 1 Market Square, Burra. The agenda is now available and this circular provides a list of reports to be considered at the meeting. 12.5 Resilient Australia Awards 2018 Nominations for the 2018 Resilient Australia Awards are now open.
