PRAISE SERVICE JANUARY 16, 2022 SECOND SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY WE GATHER IN GOD’S PRESENCE PRELUDE AND PREPARATION During the prelude, prepare your heart for worship: read the introduc- tion, find the Scripture readings in your Bible or the pew Bible, and pray. You may use this prayer: God of grace, You have given us minds to know You, hearts to love You, and voices to sing Your praise. Fill us with Your Spirit, that we may cele- brate Your glory and worship You in spirit and truth, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. AMEN. INTRODUCTION The Sundays after Epipha- ny continue to celebrate the revelation of the glory of God to us as it was made known to the magi and to those on Jordan’s banks at the baptism of Jesus—today using wed- ding imagery. God rejoic- es over His people “as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride.” By the power of the Spirit there are gifts galore for everyone. In Christ Jesus the best wine is saved for last. Taste and see. WELCOME AND MEDITATION GATHERING HYMN (Please rise.) “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” (Maj # 519 favorite) →

INVOCATION (╬ = All may make the sign of the cross.) P: Blessed be the Holy Trinity, Father, Son, ╬ and Holy Spirit, one God, Who creates us and forms us, Who redeems us and calls us, Who unites us and sends us. C: AMEN. CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS P: Gathered in God’s presence, let us confess our sin. (Please kneel. Silence is kept for reflection.) P: Mighty and loving God, C: we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We seek our own way. We divide the body of Christ. In Your mercy, cleanse us and heal us. Let the words of our mouths, the thoughts of our hearts, and everything that we do be filled with faith, hope, and love. AMEN. P: Hear the voice of Jesus: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me to proclaim release to the captives.” In the name of ╬ Jesus Christ, I proclaim to you that your sins are forgiven and you are released. The joy of the Lord is your strength, and the gift of the Holy Spirit is yours forever. C: AMEN. GREETING (Please rise.) THE PRAYER OF THE DAY L: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. L: Let us pray together: C: Lord God, source of every blessing, You showed forth Your glory and led many to faith by the works of Your Son, who brought gladness and salvation to His people. Transform us by the Spirit of His love, that we may find our life together in Him, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. AMEN. 5
RESPONSIVE READING….Psalm 36 (congregation: indented) An oracle is within my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes. For in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to detect or hate his sin. The words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful; he has ceased to be wise and to do good. Even on his bed he plots evil; he commits himself to a sinful course and does not reject what is wrong. Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, Your justice like the great deep. O LORD, You preserve both man and beast. How priceless is Your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of Your wings. They feast on the abundance of Your house; You give them drink from Your river of delights For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light. Continue Your love to those who know You, Your righteousness to the upright in heart. May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. See how the evildoers lie fallen— thrown down, not able to rise! PRAISE SONG (Please sit.) “When Christ’s Appearing Was Made Known” (LW # 81) → 6

I believe in Jesus Christ His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day He rose again. He as cended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Fa- ther. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. AMEN. OFFERING (Please sit.) For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. WE ARE SENT INTO GOD’S WORLD BLESSING P: Light and peace are yours through Jesus Christ.
