With more industries moving to the area, Daniels says the addition of mechatronics was a necessity. “In 2013, the college saw a growing demand from local industry as companies moved more to automation and as they began to recover from the recent economic downturn,” said Daniels. “In direct response, the college developed and delivered a workforce development 96- hour training course in Industrial Maintenance basics to help our local industry.” Industries will benefit from the program with WPCC graduates that have been trained in the variety of industry applications. After nearly a year of public input, planning and drafting, the final version of Morganton’s downtown master plan was unveiled by city officials in 2018. After working with a consulting firm and asking for input from the community on the top projects that should be set for the future of downtown, officials released the “Top 10 in 5” section, which outlines 10 plans Morganton should complete within the next five years. The key points of the plan focus on current downtown conditions, goals, plans and implementation strategies.
