Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) What is it? • An Open work permit • Helps you gain Canadian work experience • Helps support your PR application (if your experience is a NOC 0, A or B) • Is Not Renewable
Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) How long is it valid? • Depends on length of study: • Less than 8 months = not eligible • 8 months - 2 years = same length as study program • 2 years and longer = 3 years • A work permit cannot be issued for longer than the validity of your passport
Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) • Successfully complete an eligible program • Study full-time at an eligible Designated Learning Institution • Do not take unscheduled breaks or unauthorized leave • Do not exceed the allowable hours of off-campus work • Apply within 180 days of receiving letter of completion or final transcript from your school How do I qualify?

New Temporary Measure – Health Care Workers • Recognizing the considerable contribution and sacrifice health-care workers have made in Canada throughout the pandemic, IRCC implemented special measures for permanent residence from refugee claimants who work in Canada’s health-care sector and provide direct care to patients. • IRCC began accepting applications on December 14, 2020. Applications will be accepted until August 31st, 2021.
New Temporary Measure – Health Care Workers Eligibility To qualify, individuals must meet all of the following criteria: • Have claimed asylum before March 13, 2020 • Were issued a work permit after they made a claim for asylum • Have worked in the health-care sector, in health institutions (for example, hospitals, long-term care homes, home care through an organization or agency, assisted living facilities) • Have worked in a designated occupation for no less than 120 hours between March 13, 2020 and August 14, 2020. The designated occupations that are included in this special measure are orderlies, nurses, nurses’ aides and patient service associates, assistant orderlies and certain home support workers. • Demonstrate 6 months of experience in the designated occupation before being granted permanent residence. Applicants will have until August 31, 2021 to acquire this experience.
New Temporary Measure – Health Care Workers Eligibility – cont’d To qualify, individuals must meet all of the following criteria: • Have a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ), if wishing to reside in Quebec • Meet existing admissibility requirements, including those related to criminality, security and health, with some exceptions • Once complied with all eligibility and admissibility conditions of this public policy, in terms of the final condition of this public policy, must withdraw their refugee claim at the IRB or their appeal of the negative decision by the IRB at the Refugee Appeal Division (RAD), Federal Court application or appeal at the Federal Court of Appeal of the underlying decision of the IRB, in order to be granted permanent residence through the public policy.
New Temporary Measure – Health Care Workers Statistics • Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada estimates that several thousand claimants will be able to benefit from this measure. • As of January 26th, 2021 a total of 432 applications have been received representing a total of 1,132 persons. • To date 83 applicants have been approved in principle as result of this temporary public policy.

CRS Additional Points: Valid Job Offer • Valid job offer (NOC 00 executive): 200 points • Valid job offer (NOC 0, A or B): 50 points !• Job offer must be: • minimum 1 year once you receive PR; • non-seasonal; • NOC 0, A, or B; and • supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) unless one is not needed • You can still get points for Canadian work experience without a valid job offer
