2 Celebrating A Proud History of 15 Years of Parker Since 2006, 33 individuals have been honored by Parker Youth & Sports Foundation as outstanding athletes and leaders in the sports and athletic traditions of the Yakima Valley. For these 15 years, our board of directors has selected annual honorees, hosted a Legends Banquet (except during this year’s pandemic), and provided athletic activities to celebrate the contributions of those being honored. We are extremely proud to provide a full listing of all honorees in this edition of the High Hopes News. These individuals have received local, state, national and for some, international recognition in their sport as a player, coach or administrator of athletic programs. Take a walk down memory lane with us, to recall these remarkable individuals who brought recognition to their organization and to our Valley. 1. 2006 2. 2007 3. 2008 4. 2008 5. 2009 PETE RADEMACHER BILL PEARL CHUCK “Bobo” BRAYTON PHIL MAHRE STEVE MAHRE 1956 Olympic Gold Medal In 1953, 1961, 1967, 1971 Mr. YVC-WSU Baseball Coach – 1984 Olympic Skier 1984 Olympic Skier heavyweight Boxing Universe College Baseball Hall of Gold Medal Silver medal 1978 Hall of Fame Fame 6. 2009 7. 2010 8. 2011 9. 2011 10. 2012 WILLIE TURNER MEL STOTTLEMYRE BILL FALLER DARYL PARKER TOM PARRY 1967 World’s Fastest Man Baseball Pitcher, Coach Baseball Coach Youth Sports Founder Football Coach 100-yard & meter 1964 New York Yankees YVC Athletic Director Philanthropist WSU All Star NCAA Track Title Six World Series Rings Coaches Hall of Fame YVC Halls of Fame CWU & Coaches All-American MLB All Star; 1961-YVC Founding Board PYSF Hall of Fame Pacific Northwest Football 11. 2012 12. 2013 13. 2013 14. 2013 15. 2013 BETTY YADEN KEITH FARNAM GENE ROSTVOLD BETTY BAKER MARY SHERAR JOHNS Tennis Player, Coach Coach Eisenhower HS Coach Davis HS Fast Pitch Softball Women’s Tennis Coach Girls Sports Tennis, Baseball, Baseball, Basketball Women’s Golf Women’s Leader Chair Tournaments Basketball, Softball Athletic Director Women’s Leader 20 yrs Parks and Rec.
