1 Argyle Alternative High School 2 Balmoral Hall School 3 Boys and Girls Clubs of Winnipeg 4 Children of the Earth High School YIP: A JOURNEY For those who have been a part of this YiP journey, it has 5 Churchill High School been a year of success, of growing friendships and of 6 Dakota Collegiate cultivating teamwork. We shared laughter, as well as some 7 Daniel McIntyre Collegiate different and interesting ideas on how we can make our 8 Fort Richmond Collegiate community a better place for everyone. This year’s YiP 9 Garden City Collegiate experience was tremendously rewarding and showed us 10 Glenlawn Collegiate the real value of being a young philanthropist. We tried 11 Immigrant and Refugee Community new and different things; we communicated more and Organization of Manitoba we learned how to know and express ourselves as young 12 John Taylor Collegiate individuals; we explored what our city has to offer for 13 Kelvin High School young people and came to understand how non-profit 14 Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre organizations work and function; and we realized how we 15 Mennonite Brethren Collegiate could help out by supporting charitable agencies. At the 16 Miles Macdonell Collegiate same time, we had the opportunity to work with so many 17 Murdoch MacKay Collegiate different and amazing people with whom we share this 18 Oak Park High School magnanimous effort. It’s always fun being a YiPper not just 19 R.B. Russell Vocational High School because of the good feeling we get when we know we’ve 20 Shaftesbury High School done something good in our community, but because of 21 St. James Collegiate the people we work with and the great experiences we 22 St. John’s High School share. Our journey might not be much to other people, 23 St. John’s-Ravenscourt School but for us, it is full of laughter, teamwork, friendship and 24 St. Mary’s Academy experiences that we will never forget. 25 St. Paul’s High School 26 Tec-Voc High School -Mary Joy, St. John’s High School 27 Transcona Collegiate YiP Committee, 2016 28 University of Winnipeg Collegiate 29 Vincent Massey Collegiate 30 Westwood Collegiate Check out more youth stories at 31 Endowment Fund Listing www.communitynewscommons.org 32 YiP Committee Members Like us on Facebook at, ‘Young Winnipeg Connect’ Follow us on Twitter or Instagram at, ‘winnipegfdn’

THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER AMAZING YEAR! To the staff advisors who have kept committees on track, agencies that have shared their time and passion, and the students who have invested their energy, attention, and thoughtfulness… thank you for helping to build our community network and strengthen our city! ABOUT YIP The Winnipeg Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy (YiP) program is made possible by the generosity of donors from all walks of life through gifts made to the Foundation. YiP was established in 1999 to introduce local high school students to philanthropy and community development. The program provides hands-on experience that benefits both participating students and local charities. It also brings new and valuable perspectives to the Foundation’s grantmaking, while empowering youth as decision-makers and leaders. This year, approximately 600 students, representing 27 high schools and three community organizations have allocated more than $160,000 in grants to local charitable organizations based on areas of interest established by each student-led committee. Over the past 17 years, YiP committees have granted more than $1.5 million into the community. ABOUT THE WINNIPEG FOUNDATION For more than nine decades, The Winnipeg Foundation has had much to celebrate, including the accomplishments of its YiP program, its grantees and participants. Since our establishment in 1921, The Foundation has distributed close to $400 million to support programs and projects throughout our community; in the areas of education, health, environment, heritage, arts and culture, and recreation. The Foundation has been built by donors who have shared our vision of “a Winnipeg where community life flourishes for all.” In 2015, The Winnipeg Foundation made grants totaling $27.7 million to 905 charitable organizations. 1350-One Lombard Place Winnipeg, MB R3B 0X3 204 944 9474 www.wpgfdn.org
