Expectations for Uniform • Children will be expected to wear the correct uniform to school each day. • Black shoes should be worn everyday – trainers should be brought to school on the days when your child has PE. • P.E kit needs to be in school on PE days and worn for sporting events. • Jewellery should not be worn at all with the exception of a watch.
Swimming Lessons Location - Denbigh High School Children will walk to and from the location A bag – for swimming costume, towel, goggles etc. WHEN? Boys – 1st part of the year Girls – 2nd part of the year More information will follow at a time closer to the date and with COVID-19 guidance.
Reading • Children should be reading at home every day for a minimum of 20 minutes. • Children will benefit from reading with you or explaining what Home readers has happened in their book afterwards. • Answering your questions will also help! Read Every Day Challenge What you need to do to win an award: • Read everyday at home • Get your Reading Record signed by an adult • Hand in you Reading Record every day to get it checked by your teacher • Every signature will be signed off on the class chart. 5 signatures a week = a reading bug • When you collect 6 Reading Bugs you will get a prize!

Expected Standard for writing • Neatly joined handwriting • Writing to be done in pen – A handwriting license must be earned first! • One line drawn with a ruler will show where a mistake has been corrected by the child.

Year 4 Government Times Tables Test • What is it? The times tables test will test pupils’ abilities to meet the National Curriculum standards for times tables (up to 12 x 12) in a more informal way than testing methods such as SAT tests in Year 6. • Who has to do it? Year 4 pupils. All state-funded maintained schools, academies and free schools in England will need to take part in the check. • How long is it? The check is 25 questions long, with 3 practice questions. It should take about 5 minutes. • What’s in it? There’s an emphasis on the 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12 times tables, since these are the most difficult for children to remember. In addition, there’s no questions on the 1 times table, except potentially in the practice questions. • How do they do it? It’s digital. In a first for primary schools in England, the check is on a laptop, tablet or other similar device.

Homework • Given out on a Friday and due in on a Tuesday. • Each child has been given access to the online site Mathletics! • Each week children will be expected to complete tasks set by their class teacher. • Each piece of homework should take your child around an hour. • You can help them by taking them to a local library or helping them research on the internet. • Encourage your child to take their time, don't rush and use lots of colour!
