OUR PHILOSOPHY Chico Christian Preschool and Infant Center is a ministry of Neighborhood Church of Chico. We see each child as an individual, maturing at his or her own rate. It is our goal to value and encourage each child as he or she grows and develops physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. There is so much for children to learn and discover in the world around us. With God's help, we work together to stimulate and challenge children's interests and curiosity. We accept the challenges and privileges of facilitating children's growing and discovering in God's world, and we invite parents to partner with us in every aspect of their child's growth and development. OUR STAFF We place a high value on having qualified, caring, knowledgeable and supportive staff members here at Chico Christian Preschool and Infant Center. Each of our teachers are finger printed through the California Department of Justice and each teacher has completed the early childhood education units required by Community Care Licensing. It is the desire of our Director and each teacher to support and be available to the parents of each child in our preschool. If you should ever have questions or need to discuss your child’s education here at CCP, please feel free to stop by, e-mail or call our office and our Assistant Director would be happy to schedule a time with either your child’s teacher or our Director. We want communication to be of top priority. LICENSE & TAX I.D. Brighwheel app- the messages come through on the brightwheel app very quickly and are easy for us to access anywhere at the preschool. If you need to get in touch with your child's teacher about anything feel free to message them on brightwheel. They will also message you here. You can message teachers regarding things like attendance, late or early drop off's and pick-ups, if your child woke up early, had a rough night, mornign, may be hungry or other things you feel would be valuable for your child's teacher to know. These are also things you can share with them in person at drop off but we understand sometimes you are in a hurry to get to work or your child's teacher isn't there yet. e-mail; Director- tamarawanink@ncchico.org, Assistant Director- meganlemos@ncchico.org. PLACEMENT AND TESTING We primarily make the decision of a child’s placements into a classroom based upon birthdate, however class size as well as timing of registration can effect placement. We do not accept requests for either a teacher or to be placed with a friend. PRE-KINDERGARTEN CLASSES To be in a prekindergarten class your child must be eligible to enter kindergarten the following school year. PARENT AND GRANDPARENT INVOLVEMENT Here at Chico Christian Preschool we welcome and encourage your involvement, however parent involvement is not required. It is on a volunteer basis. We ask you to communicate with your child’s teacher on the best ways to help in the classroom. The following are a few ways that you, as a parent, can become involved with your child and his/her preschool education: 1. Volunteer time in class to read a story to some children or help them with an art activity or party. The children will love you for it! 2. Make arrangements for a special presentation to the children (your profession or perhaps a special experience that would be of interest to preschool children). 3. Donate materials that we may need for special activities. Periodically, our teachers will request such donations in their notes or newsletters. 4. Offer to precut some basic items teachers may need. 5. Encourage your child and be interested in what he/she does each day in preschool. (Lesson plans are posted on the parent sign-in board to help you.) 6. Come to the special programs in which your child is involved and family is invited. 7. If you wish to spend an occasional lunchtime with your child, please contact their teacher. We do have a lunchtime schedule and procedures that keep everything moving smoothly. 8. We do ask that if you wish to volunteer for a classroom activity, please make prior contact with the specific classroom teacher involved. 9
FINANCIAL POLICIES/TUITION AND FEES Chico Christian Preschool is a business and as so needs to operate as a business. The following policies are in place to insure our business office operates in a timely and professional manner. Please keep in mind we are non-profit organization and all funds received go directly back into the running of the school. Tuition: Amount determined by your child's attendance schedule selected on your tuition contract. In order to maintain a high quality of education for your child, and ensure the efficient operation of our facility it is necessary that we keep tuition consistent each month, therefore it is divided into 12 equal payments and remains constant regardless of holidays and vacation breaks. Monthly tuition may be paid in one of two ways: 1) Full payment for entire session (with 2.5% discount); or 2) Automatic debit on the first of each month from checking account or a Visa or MasterCard credit card you provide on your tuition contract. There is a fee to use a credit card, the specific fee will be listed on the tuition contract. Tuition is to be paid on the first of the month prior to care given. Registration Fee- $75.00, due at the time of registration and enrollment. This fee is nonrefundable. Materials Fee- $100, due every year you are enrolled on September 15th. The Materials Fee helps cover the cost of consumables such as paper, glue, tape, and paint that are used daily throughout the year. Hold Fees- Should you wish to withdraw for a month or two, we cannot guarantee a spot without paid tuition for that time. You may contact the preschool office and ask to pay a HOLDING FEE to guarantee your child’s spot for a maximum of two months. The holding fee is $200 during the school year (August- May) and $100 per month during the summer (June/July). Extra Hours Charge- additional times for which your child is not regularly scheduled. Please remember that extra time must be approved ahead of time by the Director to be sure we have adequate space. Any additional time, including a longer day than in your contract or extra days, etc., must be signed up on the extra hours pink sheet located on the table outside the blue bear room. Parents will be invoiced for any portion of an hour that your child is here beyond his/her regular schedule. After Hours Charge- A $15.00 minimum charge for picking up a child after closing time will apply and be billed to your account on file. $10.00 for every 10 minutes or portion thereof will be charged. Delinquent Account-Tuition owed beyond 45 days requires disenrollment from Chico Christian Preschool & Infant Center and could result in your account going to collections. 10
WITHDRAWAL A tuition agreement is made by the parents when enrolling to guarantee a place in the preschool for their child and is the basis for the school’s agreements with the staff. No refunds will be granted for terminations unless one month written notice has been given prior to the date of withdrawal. Our office administrative assistant must be contacted by the parent to insure proper notification is made to the bookkeeper. Teachers should not be held responsible for conveying withdrawal information to the office. If a one month written notice is not received, your account will be billed for the two weeks of care. PRIVILEGE OF ATTENDANCE Attendance at Chico Christian Preschool is a privilege, not a right. This privilege may be forfeited by any student who does not conform to the standards and regulations of the school. This includes, but is not limited to, inability to obey reasonable commands, the persistence of disrespect to staff or other adults, disruption to the class, swearing/cursing and the physical abuse of teachers/children. The administration may, at any time, dismiss a student who does not fit into the spirit of the school, or whose parents/guardians will not willingly support the purpose and tenants of this ministry. The enrollment of any child may be terminated with 24 hour notice where children and families do not abide by the policies of the preschool stated in the handbook or specifically referred to in either the Discipline section or Privilege of Attendance section. If the preschool terminates enrollment, any future unused tuition paid will be reimbursed. 11
VACATION CARE During Christmas and spring breaks, Chico Christian Preschool will make every attempt to provide at least five weekdays of care to A-schedule (all day) students. There will be a daily fee for this extra care; this is not covered in your annual tuition. Actual dates and fees will be determined and offered to A- schedule parents several weeks in advance. Reservation for the care will then be on a first come first served basis. On order for us to adequatey staff extra care, a prepayment is required for attendan e. Payment for extra care is non-refundable. ABSENCES Please notify the school if your child is going to be absent for an extended period. This is because staff salaries and project preparations continue, even if your child is absent. Also, tuition remains constant. We do not refund for illness nor do we substitute days. ALLERGIES Please be sure that your child’s teacher and our administrative assistant are aware of any allergies that your child may have. Also, please record all allergies on the first page of the application and the parent health information sheet you complete for us. ACCIDENTS Teachers and parents are requested to report all school-related accidents to the school office immediately. If the injured child is in need of immediate medical attention, we will call 911. EMERGENCY DRILLS AND OPERATIONS Throughout the year we have emergency drills of various kinds (fire, lockdown, etc.). If parents are present during a fire drill, we ask them to follow emergency procedures along with us. During lockdown drills, there may be a brief period to time when no one (including parents) is allowed to enter our building and rooms in order to accurately simulate a real lockdown. Such drills are typically very brief, and we do ask parents to either remain inside and observe the drill or remain outside until the drill has ended. Please respect our stand rules of operation during these times. If you have questions, please contact the director. 12
HEALTH A physician’s report must be in our files within 30 days of enrolling your child. Chico Christian Preschool desires to provide conditions that encourage cleanliness and good health practices among children. If your child becomes ill after arriving at school, you will be called and asked to come pick him/her up. If you are unable to come immediately, we can make your child comfortable for a short time to give you the opportunity to make arrangements for picking him/her up. Children are to be kept home when they show any signs of the following: Sore throat, runny nose (that interrupts normal functioning), cough, fever, rash, earache, headache, or pink/matted eyes. Please remember that even with the absence of a fever, children need to be well enough to function and participate at school. If a child is sent home with any communicable disease we reserve the right to request a doctor’s release upon the child returning to school. Children sent home from preschool with a fever of at least 100 degrees may not return for 24 hours. Children may be sent home without a fever if the child is unable to function in the daily routine. IMMUNIZATIONS All children must be current on immunizations before entering Chico Christian Preschool. The following is a schedule required by California Health Department. We are no longer able to accept waivers except in rare cases with the approval of a physician. Age When Entering Immunizations (shots) Required 2–3 Months 1 each of Polio, DTaP, Hib, Hep B 4–5 Months 2 each of Polio, DTaP, Hib, Hep B 3 each of DTaP 6–14 Months 2 each of Polio, Hib, Hep B 15–17 Months 3 each of Polio, DTaP 2 Hep B 1 MMR 1 Hib 18 months–5 years 3 Polio 4 DTaP 3 Hep B 1 MMR 1 Hib 1 Varicella Please notify the school immediately of any contagious diseases or serious illness in the family such as head lice, conjunctivitis (pink eye), Fifth Disease “slapped cheek”, German Measles, Impetigo, Ringworm, Roseola, Scarlet Fever, Strep Throat, Flue or Covid. Children should not return to school after a contagious disease or serious illness without a call to the director. This is for the protection of all the children. *German Measles may be serious to pregnant women; the office should be notified ASAP. 13
MEDICATIONS Medication of any kind cannot be given to any child without written instructions. Please pick up a medication release form from the office or your clasroom teacher if you should need to send medication to school for your child. Over-the-Counter Medications: Medication must come to us in its original container. The bottle must have the enrolled child’s name on the bottle. Samples must come with a doctor’s note with directions and signature. Any over the counter medication that says “for children under a certain age” a physician must be consulted, it will be necessary to obtain a fax or handwritten note concerning dosage, on the prescription pad from the doctor. This must happen for each period of time that you wish this medication given. Also, it is most convenient for our schedule to dispense medication once a day just before naptime. Medications will not be given longer than the bottle directions indicate. Children may not keep medication in their cubbies, backpacks, lunch boxes or pockets. This includes Chap Stick, cough drops, sunscreen or insect repellent. Sunscreen and or insect repellent can be administered once a day, after nap time and before going on the playground. Parents will need to administer morning sunscreen and insect repellent before leaving their children. ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE Chico Christian Preschool is not a drop in center. We have predictable scheduling and predictable slots of time. Circle time begins at 9:00 am, please keep in mind No matter what schedule you have; all children are expected to arrive by 9:00 a.m. It is disruptive to have children come in after circle time has started. It also becomes impossible to greet your child as personally and warmly as we would like if we are in the middle of a circle or table teaching time. Please inform the teacher about occasional planned late arrivals due to appointments, etc or if you are picking up your child earlier than usual. Please escort your child inside the building and put him/her in contact with a teacher before leaving. Please do not allow your child to run ahead of you on our campus. At no time, should you let your child be alone in a classroom. If circle time is in progress when you pick up your child, we ask that you please be considerate of the teacher and class and wait until the circle has ended before entering the room. If for some reason your child needs to leave early, please pick up as quietly as possible. We will not be able to escort your child (ren) to your car (or even the front door). 14
CHAPEL Chapel is held the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Typically beginning in October and ending in May. All classes will meet together either on the patio or the multipurpose room from 9:00-9:30 am. The special lessons are led by the teachers, and are geared for young children through puppets, skits, stories, movies, etc. Special songs, prayer and children's participation are a regular part of chapel. Chapel is designed for the development of Christian Character traits such as obedience, thankfulness, kindness, etc. Parents are welcome to attend any of our chapel programs. In addition to chapel, teachers also have a Bible focus time several days a week in their classrooms. CLOTHING The clothes should be easy for your child to undo so he/she can take care of his/her own bathroom needs. Paint, clay, and sand sometimes get on clothes. Be sure all clothing, including jackets, are washable and for play. Occasionally, even though children wear smocks when painting, paint can get on clothes, please keep that in mind when choosing clothes best for school. A warm hat or hood should be worn in cold weather. Open-toed shoes and flip-flops are NOT allowed. The guideline to remember is that the shoes need to be safe (1) with adequate tread so as not to slip, (2) that they be able to protect the feet, (3) and that they are secured to the feet. All children need to have a change of clothes at school at all times. This includes shirt, pants, underwear and socks. Please make sure all extra clothes are clearly labeled with child’s name. When soiled clothes are sent home, please remember to replace them the next day. If clothes are borrowed from school it is important that they are promptly returned. Sweaters and jackets should be clearly labeled with child’s name as well. POTTY TRAINING All children in the preschool with the exception of the Orange Owl and Purple Penguin classroom must be fully potty trained. This means they are able to make it through nap dry and take care of their wiping needs in the bathroom. Pull-ups are not used outside of the Orange Owls and Purple Penguin Class. BIRTHDAYS You are welcome to provide birthday treats for the class to celebrate your child’s birthday, however we do ask that you make arrangements with your child’s teacher ahead of time. If there are any allergies in the class, you may be asked to limit certain foods. TOYS Many of the Preschool Classrooms offer a share circle and requires children to bring a toy from home. Please make sure your child puts the toy safely in their cubby when they arrive at school. Toy from home will only be able to leave the child's cubby at share circle on their share day. They will not be allowed to take the toy out to the playground or play with it during class time. 16

This type of information will be sent out to parents via e-mail and on brightwheel. Please make sure you read your e-mails from the school thoroughly so you don't miss out on a special event. Hot, rainy or smokey day's- if it is too hot, smokey or rainey for your child to safely go outside we may go over to the multipurpose room and follow along to movement songs on the large screen. Discipline Policy Chico Christian Preschool follows the discipline philosophy of Love and Logic. Please read the article at the back of the handbook to familiarize yourself with the philosophy. Chico Christian Preschool does not believe in a "no tolerance" policy for any behavior. We believe in meeting every child where they are and supporting them in their social/emotional development. Teaching and helping children grow in a healthy and positive way requires us to be tolerant of children making mistakes and needing space and time to learn. If your child is involved or exposed to language or behaviors that are extreme for preschool aged children we will notify you immediately to share information about the incident and how it was handled at school. if there is a concern or a repeating pattern of extreme behavior that poses a risk to the other children at the school we will set up a meeting with the family to discuss strategies and alternative way's to support a child showing extreme violence, profanity or other behaviors that are not common in typically developing preschool children. At these meetings we may also discuss other options for your child that may be able to support your child better than Chico Christian preschool. If you have concerns regarding our discipline policy, interactions your child is having at school or your child's safety at our preschool we strongly encourage you to talk to your child's teacher or schedule a meeting with the Director. 18

PRAYER REQUEST As apart of our ministry we value coming along side families in prayer. Each week we send out an e-mail of prayer request to the preschool families and the Neighborhood church congregation. Those individuals who are committed to praying for our families will know exactly what to be praying for. To submit a prayer request you can write it down on any kind of paper and place it in the drop box at the preschool office. You can also e-mail them to tamarawanink@ncchico.org. Prayer request can be completely anonymous if you prefer. If you would like to remain anonymous with your request leave out any personal information including names. We believe God knows who you are so if we are praying for or over a certain situation God will know who we are praying for.
Welcome to brightwheel! This is an app that we use at the preschool to enhance communication and give you a little window into your child’s day. Sometime during the morning of your child’s first day you will receive a text prompting you to download the app if you haven’t already and giving you a link or a code to access your child’s feed. Follow the instructions and if you have any trouble getting set up do not hesitate to ask for help at the front desk if needed! Once you have signed up you will be able to message your child’s teachers and see various updates about their day on their feed. Depending on your child’s age, you may see more or less information each day. For example, infants have their entire day documented; every meal, nap, and diaper change is recorded. The same is true in our two-year-old class, but as the classes get older, and as children become more able to communicate how their day was to you, their teacher may document less. Never hesitate to reach out if there is a specific aspect of your child’s day that you are wondering about! Even in the oldest classes, you will see that their teacher checks them in and out, you may get notes about injuries, or the occasional photo, and you will always have access to messaging. Brightwheel messaging is the best way to communicate with anyone at the preschool throughout the day, as our admin staff are often helping in classrooms and may not be available to answer the phone at all times. You can message if you will be arriving late or early, if your child will be staying home sick, or anything else! Brightwheel is also where we store your child’s emergency contacts and approved pick up list. If there is ever someone new that will be picking up your child from school, you can go into your child’s profile and add them to this list. Important spots to know Keypad Entrance: All exterior doors to the preschool remain locked at all times. Two of them can be opened with a keypad code that changes at the start of every new session. Contact the front desk if you need access to a door code. Library: A large multi-use space mostly utilized by our younger classes. Orange Owls and Purple Penguins often start their day here before 9:00, and Red Raccoons join them here in the late afternoons. These classes, along with the Infant Center classes will often use this space for recess when it is rainy or too hot to go outside Multi-Purpose room: Another multi-use space that can be used for recess when it is rainy or too hot to go outside. We also may use this room for our all– school Chapel during the school year. Fellowship Hall: A large room in the church office building that allows for big gross-motor play when it is rainy or too hot to go outside. We will also occasionally use this space for special events such as all school movie days or dance parties. When you exit the preschool from the doors you will walk straight onto Damascus drive. Directly across the way is the church office building. If we are over there, the doors will be propped open. Once you enter the hallway the double doors to the Fellow- ship Hall are immediately on your right. Dropbox: A slot in a locked cabinet for you to drop off paperwork or checks if there is no one at the front desk.

Enrichment Class Information Chico Christian Preschool values offering a diverse and enriching learning experience for all of our students. Along with that we also enjoy providing teachers with a space to share the things they are passionate about teaching to children. Each year new teachers come forward with ideas on how to share their gifts with the school. We allow them to share their gifts through our enrichment class program. In the past teachers have taught; sign language, Spanish, yoga, ceramics and music. The enrichment classes are free to all students and are apart of our curriculum. In years past we have only offered enrichment classes to a small amount of students. This year we are structuring it so that all students can join the enrichment programs by including the classes in their weekly schedules. Please see the following flyer for the enrichment courses we are starting the first part of the year off with. Enrichment classes start in September. We will let you know prior to the start date the time and day your child's class will participate in the enrichment class. If your child does not attend preschool at that time or on the day your child's class is scheduled for an enrichment class they unfortunately will not be able to participate in the class. Please see the front desk or e-mail tamarawanink@ncchico.org with any questions. 6
