Children's Services, Emergency Duty Team, Bridgwater
SENIOR SOCIAL WORK ASSISTANT
18.5 hours per week

About us
The Emergency Duty Team (EDT) has co-located with partner agencies in the Express Park Police
Centre in Bridgwater and contribute to the Safeguarding work of the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub
(MASH), ensuring children and adult safeguarding referrals are prioritised as part of the County
Council’s 24x7 First Response Service. We are looking to appoint a Senior Social Work Assistant to
join this modernised and developing service.
About the job
During weekday evenings and overnight, weekends and Bank Holidays you will contribute to the
emergency assessment and provision of care and support to clients and their families across the
County. This covers Children and Families Social Care, Adult Social Care, Mental Health services and
the provision of an out of hours homelessness service. You will assist the duty social workers with the
assessment by phoning clients’ with urgent out of hour’s needs, giving advice and providing services
and support to make situations safe until the next working day. You will staff the EDT office and receive
incoming phone calls, alone at times, and in the absence of duty social workers on visits; working with
a degree of autonomy, but also maintaining appropriate phone contact and consultation with the duty
social workers. Although essentially office-based, you may on occasions attend a police station as an
Appropriate Adult for a juvenile or vulnerable adult. The current working pattern is Monday to Friday
16:30 to 00:30, and Saturdays, Sundays, and Bank Holiday’s 08:30 to 16:30 or 16:30 to 00:30. This
equates to roughly 9 shifts a month.
About you
You should have an NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care or a relevant qualification/experience, and will
also have excellent people skills and an empathy and respect for vulnerable individuals. You will be a
good listener, committed to getting the best out of someone and should look for solutions that empower
people wherever possible. You will provide accurate typed reports of work undertaken. You should

have some previous experience (paid or unpaid) of social care and a basic understanding of equal
opportunities. Basic IT knowledge is necessary although full training will be provided on our specific

The Governing Body, through its appointed and elected Governors, plays a distinctive and essential
role in the continuing success and development of the School.
The Clerk’s job is to work with the Head Teacher, Chair of Governors and other Governors, dealing
with administrative matters for the Governing Body and advising on legal issues of governance. The
post involves twilight/evening work and the successful candidate should also be available for training
during the day. Good computer skills, integrity and the ability to write agendas, produce accurate
concise minutes and maintain confidentiality are essential.
Previous experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. New clerks receive
support and training from the Somerset Governor Services Team and all clerks are encouraged to

be required to provide efficient and effective invigilation supporting the work of the Examinations
Department by supervising candidates in both internal and external examinations. Full training will be

Duties and Responsibilities
    • To assist with setting up examination venues (arranging tables, laying out stationery – (please

Job Summary

SENIOR PLANNER – CONSERVATION & REGENERATION

The Planning Policy and Development Management teams within the Inward Investment and Growth
Service of the Council are responsible for dealing with a wide range of planning and associated
applications for development proposals across the District. As a mix of towns and villages set within a
rural context coupled with high development pressure and an ambitious pro-growth agenda, the planning
caseload is both high and interesting including major housing, employment and retail proposals.
A Senior Planner role with a specific focus on conservation and regeneration is now available within the
teams. This will provide the opportunity at a senior level to be an integral part of the development
management and wider planning service, to provide specialist advice and support, positively influence
development proposals and to achieve the conservation and enhancement of buildings, sites and areas
of architectural and historic interest.
It is an exciting opportunity for a career in a District with over 1200 Listed Buildings, and 15

We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible Environmental Health Officer to work in our
Environmental Protection Team for 26 hours per week, preferably over 4 days.
The Environmental Health Service undertakes a range of traditional Environmental Health (EH) duties
but the services remit also includes a number of non EH functions such as civil contingencies, land
drainage, resorts and port Services.
The role includes undertaking pollution control duties and, as the need arises, assisting the land
drainage function, the port function and the resorts service.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in environmental protection work, such as
nuisance, contaminated land, environmental permitting, pest control, dog control and drainage.
Additional experience in any of the non-EH functions listed above would be advantage.
