PALM SCHWENKFELDER CHURCH SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2019 Mission Statement of PALM SCHWENKFELDER CHURCH: Our task is to proclaim the Living Word of God, which empowers us to care for and share with our community and the world. Vision Statement of PALM SCHWENKFELDER CHURCH: Serving the glorious God, claimed by Jesus, and inspired by scripture, honoring our history, with renewed commitment we will reach out to our community and the world through worship, spirit enriching programs, and outreaching mission. Chimes Welcome and Announcements Prayer Prelude “Early One Morning” Colin Hand *Call to Worship Every day I will bless you, and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; your greatness, O God, is unsearchable. You fulfill the desire of all who fear you; you hear their cries and save them. My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord, and bless your holy name forever and ever. Let us worship God! *Hymn #356 “All Creatures of Our God and King” Call to Confession 2
Prayer of Confession All-knowing God, we are reluctant to identify weakness or wickedness in ourselves. We do not recognize violent behavior or lawless rebellion as a personal problem. We would not think of elevating ourselves to take your place. Yet we find ourselves viewing the world from the narrow perspective of our own self-interest. Our anger at others spills over into our words and deeds. We ignore you in our decision making and fail to give thanks to you in our daily living. Without your forgiveness and transforming love, there is little hope for us. Hear and save us, we pray. Amen. Time of Personal Confession Assurance of Pardon Scripture Psalm 145 (NRSV p. 506 – 507; LP p. 981 – 982) 2 Thessalonians 2:13 – 17 (NRSV p. 962; LP p. 1854 – 1855) Children’s Sermon Children’s Church Lisa Stitt *Hymn #612 “How Firm a Foundation” Sermon “And Greatly to Be Praised” Senior Choir Anthem “By Faith” Keith & Kristyn Getty and Stuart Townsend arr. Richard A. Nichols Pastoral Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. 3
Call to Offering Offertory “O Love Divine, What Hast Thou Done” Robert J. Powell *Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye Heavenly Host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. *Prayer of Dedication For the future glory of your church, we dedicate our gifts. Toward the reign of love in our midst, we consecrate ourselves. O God of all the ages, show yourself to us in our time. Work within us individually and among us as a community of faith, that we may experience resurrection and carry your good news into our world. Amen. *Hymn #20 “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” *Benediction Postlude “He Leadeth Me” Gilbert M. Martin *All who are able, please stand. One bouquet of flowers is presented today in honor of Ray and Miriam Hausman’s wedding anniversary. One bouquet of flowers is presented today in loving memory and honor of veterans and of those serving in the United States Armed Forces. The bulletins are sponsored today in memory of Dorothy Wilson with love from your family. 4

Palm Country Day School We still have openings in our 2-day, 3-day, and pre-K. If you are interested or know somebody interested please have them call us for more information. And did you know that you can order books from Scholastic to support our preschool? There are catalogues available in our front hallway. If you order through Scholastic using our code, PCDS gets points to use on the purchase of books and other supplies for the classroom. We are working to earn enough points to buy the classroom a drying rack so please consider buying from Scholastic. Raise the Roof Capital Campaign It has come to the attention of the Board of Trustees that the roof on the Christian Education building is in need of replacement. Contractors have surveyed the roof and have determined that a new roof will be needed within the next 2 to 3 years. In order to raise the funds needed for this project, the Board has decided to run a capital campaign entitled “Raise the Roof.” The campaign will begin immediately and run through December 31, 2021 or until the determined amount of $100,000 is reached. Please prayerfully consider helping us protect and maintain our facility by donating to this very important campaign. A progress chart will be posted in the narthex along with update reports in the bulletin and newsletter. Mission Trip to Puerto Rico I would like to express my sincerest gratitude and appreciation to everyone who helped make my mission trip to Puerto Rico possible. We did some very good work and helped several people who are still recovering from the effects of Hurricanes Irma and Maria more than 18 months after they hit the island. It was my honor and privilege to represent not only the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference, but Palm Schwenkfelder Church as we repaired buildings and structures damaged by the storms, and helped people reclaim their lives and communities and recover their identities. At some point in the near future I will share my experiences on this mission trip with the congregation. Stay tuned for an announcement about my presentation. And thank you again!! Dan Ferry Did You Know…? This is where we list items of interest to members and visitors. If you have any items to add, please call or email Dan Ferry in the church office. Thank you. 8
Did You Know…? CCTV – We broadcast the Sunday worship service on closed circuit televisions in both the Nursery and the Adult Sunday School Room. LARGE PRINT bulletins are available from an usher. LARGE PRINT Bibles are also available for use during worship services, located on the table to the left between the front and back sections of pews. Listening devices are available for those who would like them. Please see an usher to assist you. A fully accessible restroom is located in the hallway, across from the office. A baby changing table is there, also. There are two yellow and green bins at the back of the parking lot for recycling your office paper and newspaper. The church benefits from these collections, along with helping the environment. In case of an emergency, there is an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) located in the rear of the sanctuary, in the alcove where the mailboxes are and where the sound system is kept. 9
Holiday Bazaar Mark your calendars! ---- Saturday, November 23, 2019 9:00 am to 2:00pm With Labor Day still visible in our rearview mirror, it’s hard to believe that the holiday season will be here before you know it. With that in mind, we need to start planning our Holiday Bazaar. The date is set for November 23, 2019, and there is much planning and preparation to be done! Our bazaar is always a fun-filled day with many crafters, good food, and great fellowship.
