PAINTING & DRAWING CLASSES WITH CAROLINE JONES (BFA, MFA) Contact: oils4us@gmail.com or 0211016448 Wednesday morning painting in oils or acrylics from 9.30am-1.15pm: Explore and develop your painting skills as a means of expression in a class of 8 - 10 students - big enough for a dynamic exchange but small enough for plenty of individual attention. All levels welcome. Easels, tables and palettes, and morning tea provided. Classes run during the school term in room G301 at NMIT, G-Block, Nile St Cost: 8 week term $230, 9 week term $260, 10 week term $280 Courses offered by Caroline Jones as part of the Adult Community Education programme at NMIT: The ACE short courses are subsidized for NZ citizens and residents, providing very accessible tuition at only $75 per course. Some courses do have an extra fee payable to the tutor i.e. model fee for figure painting and paper fee for drawing courses, see NMIT website for details. Courses run during each school term, with 4 intakes throughout the year.

The classes cater for both experienced students and for those who have not done much drawing at all. Students will be encouraged to:- o develop drawing skills using a range of media and tools to describe the human form o refine their observational skills o find their unique personal expression The year consists of four ten week terms starting on 7/8 February 2019 with two week long breaks during the New Zealand primary school holidays Fees; The fees are $250 per ten week term. This covers payment for the model, hire of the classroom, additional materials when required and tea and coffee. Students are expected to provide their own paper for the long poses but paper for short poses is provided. Easels and drawing boards are also provided. Students will need their own drawing materials and will receive a list of recommended materials upon enrolment. 2019 Start dates - Evening class: o Thursday 7 February – 5.30pm – 8pm

On Day One you will paint a simple landscape with cumulus clouds, and on Day Two, a figure from supplied photographs. Each morning there will be build up exercises: draw- ing, tonal and colour mixing, to allow everyone to fully understand the subject matter. This workshop suits beginners to experienced. This class will go into more detail with colour harmony, composition and perspective and you will go more into depth with watercolour techniques. WATERCOLOUR JOURNALING Imagine you are a tourist in the Nelson/Richmond area, equipped with a little watercolour sketchbook, a few watercolours, pencil and black pen and you have 20 minutes to capture a scene before the bus leaves again… In Nicole’s Watercolour Journaling class you will be creating small keepsakes of your journey that are worth much more than a photograph. During this class you will practice figures, negative spaces, water
and trees, and of course perspective, in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Nicole will be demonstrating each step, guide you through a few practice runs and you will finish with your final painting. This class is for beginners as well as experienced artists. Each week will be at a different location in Nelson/Richmond.
