Job summary
This is the development of an existing post that has come out of the
expansion of Golddigger Trust’s work in Sheffield and a successful project
of provision for vulnerable young men, based around an 8-week self esteem
course entitled ‘Made Of More’, a comprehensive bespoke mentoring
programme, and supporting community outreach activities. Following 5
years growing and establishing this innovative project, we are now looking
to build on the existing work and develop resources and new initiatives for
disadvantaged young men within Sheffield. This post is one of two Made of
More Coordinator posts. The administration of this project is equally shared
between these 2 members of staff and they are expected to work closely
together, delivering this project as a team. The role is multifaceted and has
potential to grow to a full time post based on the initiative of the post holder.
22.5 hours per week of this post is funded by BBC Children In Need to
coordinate and deliver the ‘Made Of More’ community project, delivering
courses, mentoring and new projects with vulnerable and/or disadvantaged
young men in Sheffield. Further hours are allocated and supported by
Golddigger Trust (subject to ongoing funding) to promote ‘Made Of More’
courses and mentoring within schools and in community settings outside of
the ‘Made Of More’ Community Project’ brief, to deliver additional activities
(such as the development of wider wellbeing activities and programmes for
16-21s) and to promote and deliver the ‘Made Of More’ National Leaders
Training, replicating the success of the ‘I’m The Girl I Want To Be’ National
Training programme in it’s reputation and geographical coverage. It is
anticipated that the post holder will secure further schools and community
bookings and deliver the training programme to generate the funding to
continue these (and any further) additional hours.
Within the ‘Made Of More’ Community Project’, The post holder will
coordinate the ‘Made Of More’ project, developing and delivering 8
session/2 day long courses with vulnerable young men aged 11-18 at the
‘Made Of More’ youth centre base, other youth centres/venues across the
city, extra-curricularly with school partners and occasionally as a residential
weekend. The post holder will mentor disadvantaged and vulnerable young
men in a one-on-one setting, delivering bespoke resources designed for the
project and young person. The post holder will develop deep mentoring
relationships with vulnerable young men and create tailored programmes
of support, encouragement and challenge to build esteem, character,
aspirations and life skills within the young person. There is a priority on
delivering courses and further support and intervention with young men
aged 11-18 identified as disaffected, disadvantaged and vulnerable and the
post holder will work directly with young people referred under this agenda,
in both one to one mentoring, ‘Made Of More’ course interventions, informal
sessions and other follow up activities.
This coordinator post will have day-to-day oversight of the project and will
therefore support the line management of ‘Made Of More’ staff and
volunteers, in conjunction with the Chief Executive, providing supervision
and oversight. This is a creative role with an emphasis on delivering
effective youth work, coupled with significant elements of networking to
develop and maintain partnerships across the city, and with relevant
administration and project management. There is scope for this role to
expand through additional funding streams, particularly through training
other youth workers to deliver the ‘Made Of More’ resource around the UK,
and the ongoing development of work with 18+ young adults, and these
additional hours and responsibilities will be arranged with the Chief
Executive, in conversation with the post holder.
