Editorial Dear readers, in this issue of Asian PU Digest we again present you a good mix of technical articles, reports on upcoming and past events, and of course the current news and developments of the industry. We have picked two interesting technical articles that we believe you will find particularly interesting: The first article by Kohlstrung, Engels and Schlingloff, Henkel, deals with multi-substrate polyurethane adhesives and bonding technologies especially for automotive lightweight designs. In today’s lightweight car body construction many different materials with different properties, such as stiffness, strength and thermal elongation need to be joined and this article explains how these challenges can be overcome with the aid of a new class of polyurethane adhesive. The second technical article by Tang, Taylor and Wiggins, Albermarle Corporation, discusses a recently modified curative for the polyurethane cast elastomer industry. The presented liquid aromatic diamine is a multipurpose, low odour and low toxicity curative. Furthermore, the current issue reports also on recent successful trade shows and events, such as the CIFM / interzum Guangzhou, and Chinaplas, that took place in Shanghai and closed with a record number of attendees. Enjoy reading! Your Asian PU Digest Team Asian PU Digest – VOL. 2, NO. 3 3

Sustainable castor bean production Arkema and partners help over 1,000 Indian farmers Leading chemical companies helped 1,019 Indian farmers on their way to create a framework for sustainable castor bean production. Arkema, BASF, Jayant Agro-Organics (a producer of castor oil-based chemicals in India), and Solidaridad (an international civil society organization) came together for Project ‘Pragati’ (Hindi word for progress). Technology pioneers – 50 years of Reaction Process Machinery at KraussMaffei Numerous technological milestones characterise the development This year, KraussMaffei’s Reaction Process Machinery (RPM) celebrates not only the 180th anniversary of Krauss- Maffei as a whole but also its own jubilee. In 1968 – exactly 50 years ago – its first specialised clamping unit with two rotation axes for processing polyurethane was introduced to the market. This launch triggered a de- velopment resulting in a wide variety of products and processes thanks to which it has been possible to further improve the performance capacity of PU components and other matrix systems. Milestones in development in the portfolio. The first mould carriers (“Moon-Swing”) were intro- duced to the market in 1968 together with PU systems from Bayer. “We look back with pride on 50 years of reaction process machinery.
