VOLUME 67 MARCH 2014 Our State Team Celebrates Moomba! Pictured above, our Juniors, Inters and Senior State Team members, enjoying the moment with the King and Queen of Moomba, (Bert Newton and Lucy Durack) and of course, sharing the limelight was Bert’s lovely wife Pa Newton.
Moomba 2014 We hope you tuned into the live broadcast of the 60th Celebra on, Diamond Jubilee Moomba Parade on Monday 10th March and caught a glimpse of members of the Victorian State Senior, Inter and Junior teams suppor ng the King and Queen of Moomba float. It turned out to be a glorious day to dance their way down St Kilda Road to the music of “Spinning Around.” It was fabulous to hear so many Calisthenic supporters amongst the crowd of many thousands watching the parade from the street. Most pleasing was to hear the cheers and exclama ons from the crowd, wowed by the skills shown by the girls. The girls were thrilled to hear so much applause for them which helped them to con nue their performance for the length of the parade. They felt like celebri es as there were literally banks of photographers along the route. Many thanks to the enthusias c performers, their parents and the lovely chaperones for their support during this special event. We would also like to thank the choreographers Sarah Carthew and Liz Carroll and the Clubs that provided the 50 costumes for this event, Canadian Bay, Ceres and Jeaden. Mildura CC has great success with ‘Come’n’Try’ Month Mildura Calisthenics Club had only 46 members last year. As a result of this, it was decided to run a promo on day in prepara on for this year’s Come’n’try month. We set up a booth at our main shopping centre and the response was be er than we could have imagined. Having a bear costume, (which we had used previously in one of our items), we decided to put a club t‐shirt on it and use it as our mascot. We also had colouring‐in books and club logo balloons to hand out on the day. Over the day we handed out over 70 informa on le ers and had numerous parents approach us asking about “what” Calisthenics was all about. As we had our concerts playing via DVD on the day, it helped us show everyone exactly what Calisthenics was all about. “Come’n’try” February and Calisthenics was now known to our community. We had our Tinies class on the Monday night, our first night back, and were expec ng a few new girls to arrive, so had arranged extra helpers, but the amount of girls that had shown up was unbelievable. Our hall isn’t that big and with 34 girls arriving to give us a go, as well as their parents and siblings, the place was chao c. On the Wednesday, we held our Sub‐juniors class. A er last year only having 4 girls and not being able to compete, we were excited at the prospect of new girls trying out. With only 3 of the 4 returning and only two Tinies going up, we hoped we would be at least able to have a team to compete. We were pleasantly surprised to have a total of 16 girls trying our class. On the 2nd week we had the same amount of girls, although some were gone and some were new. This led us to quickly arrange to put the Tinies into two different teams of what were now 15 girls each. As of the comple on of week 4, we now have 2 teams of 13 Tinies, 14 Sub Juniors, 8 Juniors, 8 Inters and 14 Seniors. A total of 70 girls, an increase of 24 par cipants. To say that ‘Come’n’Try” was a success for our club would be a huge understatement. We look forward to next year’s February, to keep our club growing, become successful both on stage and with our friendships. 2013 CVI State Championship Trophies Congratula ons to the winners of the following CVI Trophies:‐ Jeane e Schreck Memorial Trophy ‐ Championship Senior Aggregate, Ceres Empire Trade Trophy ‐ Championship Reserve Senior Aggregate winner, Merinda Maureen Connelly Memorial Trophy ‐ Championship Inter Aggregate winner, Avonde Ilana Treagus Memorial Trophy ‐ Championship Junior Aggregate winner, Jeaden Regent Trophy ‐ Championship Sub Junior Aggregate winner, Jeaden Cli on Collegians Heritage Trophy ‐ Div. 1 Seniors Aggregate winner, Kristar Joan Lloyd Memorial Trophy ‐ Div 7 Senior Aesthe cs winner, Glenroy Emma Bakes Memorial Trophy ‐ (from VCCA) Div 1 Senior Rhyth Aesth. winner, Kristar Waverley Trophy ‐ Div. 5 Junior Clubs winner, Sterling Nance Padey Award ‐ Div 5 Senior Aesthe c winner, Westaire
