Our Lady of Lourdes Council # 11809 kofc11809.org August 2021– Newsletter Volume 28 Number 2 Brother Knights The officer’s installation will take place on August 28th at Madonna Hall from 5:30 to 7:30. Mass will be at 4:00 followed by the officer’s installation. There will be a catered meal after the installation. Officers for the fraternal year of 2021-2022 are expected to attend. Spouses are also invited to attend. The Father McGivney room has been given a fresh coat of paint and looks great. I would like to thank Carl Jarvis Grand Knight, Tony Messina, Ron Rinder FS, John Heep Trustee, Mike Ward Treasurer, Sue Ward Ladies Auxiliary President, Joseph Shanks District Deputy, and Dave Lara for donating their time and energy in getting this job done. A special thanks to Zeke Spanelli, Business Manager and Maintenance Manager for giving us the opportunity to support our parish. District Deputy Joe Shanks and I met with Father John recently to discuss what we can do as a council to support our parish and how he can support us. Father John assured us that he is a great supporter of the Knights of Columbus. He agreed to be our council Chaplain but said he may not be able to attend all the meetings. We discussed the future of bingo at the parish. Father John felt that the profit margin for bingo was very thin and not worth pursuing. Treasurer Mike Ward will handle selling off the bingo equipment. We discussed various events that we could do during the year such as a fish fry during lent, a valentine’s dance, Sunday pancake breakfast after the 9:00 mass. He wants to bring back Sunday doughnuts and it would be great if our council would support this event. There are other possibilities for social type events so stay tuned. Father John also supports the idea of the council conducting membership drives at the church. The potential for putting our name out there and having Father Johns support is great news for growing our council. This brings up an important issue though, the council needs our brother knights to step up and help with some of the events we want to put on, I’m not asking for members to put a lot of time in just help maybe a couple of hours a month. I know that many of our brother knights are retired, and many have been knights for a long time, but I want to ask at what point in our lives do stop supporting our brother knights, our council, our parish, or our community? Just something to think about. Carl Jarvis Grand Knight

Brother Knights & Family Who Need Our Prayers 8 Those in Need of Our Prayers A Prayer for Healing a Loved One All our times are in Thy hand. All diseases come at Thy call and go at Thy bidding. Thou redeemest our life from destruction and crownest us with loving kindness and tender mercies. We bless Thee, that Thou hast heard our prayer, and commanded deliverances for our friend and Thy servant, who has been under Thine afflicting hand. He (or she) was brought low, but Thou hast helped him (her). May he (she) not only live but declare the works of the Lord! As Thou hast delivered his eyes from tears, his feet from falling, and his soul from death, may he daily inquire: What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits towards me, and resolve to offer unto Thee the sacrifices of thanksgiving and to call upon the name of the Lord. May we ever remember that recovery is only a reprieve and that someday we will go to our rest in the Lord. May we, therefore, secure the righteous path and live with eternity ever in our view. Amen. Our prayers this month go to the Families of Brother Knights Larry Loseke, Bob Conen, John Mahoney, Henry Bianco, Earl Mackert, Joseph Kurzweil, Mike Ward’s Herb Strider, and others that need our prayers. We also pray for Joe Dorsey - Mike Ward’s niece’s husbandand Sister- In- Law Beth Brauneis , Mary Antonellis of the parish, and Heather Melcarek - John Melcarek’s daughter. Pray for the repose of the soul of Sir Knight Earl Mackert and his wife Carol. Earl passed away on July 10 at 91 and Carol passed a couple of days later. . May they be healed and remain in the comfort of their family. May God Bless their families and provide the spiritual support needed to provide the patience for healing., Birthdays – Years of Service
