February 13, 2022 Wo r s h i p S e r v i c e - 1 0 A M Order of Worship OPENING SONG Resurrection Hymn 1. See what a morning gloriously bright With the dawning of hope in Jerusalem Folded the grave-clothes tomb filled with light As the angels announce Christ is risen See God's salvation plan wrought in love Borne in pain paid in sacrifice Fulfilled in Christ the Man for He lives Christ is risen from the dead 2. See Mary weeping where is He laid As in sorrow she turns from the empty tomb Hears a voice speaking calling her name It's the Master the Lord raised to life again The voice that spans the years Speaking life stirring hope bringing peace to us Will sound till He appears For He lives Christ is risen from the dead 3. One with the Father Ancient of Days Through the Spirit who clothes faith with certainty Honour and blessing glory and praise To the King crowned with pow’r and authority And we are raised with Him Death is dead love has won Christ has conquered And we shall reign with Him For He lives Christ is risen from the dead
WELCOME AND OPENING PRAYER CALL TO WORSHIP - PSALM 102:18-2 All: Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet to be created may praise the LORD: that he looked down from his holy height; from heaven the LORD looked at the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners, to set free those who were doomed to die, that they may declare in Zion the name of the LORD, and in Jerusalem his praise, when peoples gather together, and kingdoms, to worship the LORD. SONGS OF PRAISE Days of Elijah 1. These are the days of Elijah Declaring the Word of the Lord And these are the days Of Your servant Moses Righteousness being restored And though these are days Of great trials Of famine and darkness and sword Still we are the voice In the desert crying Prepare ye the way of the Lord Chorus Behold He comes Riding on the clouds Shining like the sun At the trumpet call So lift your voice It's the year of Jubilee And out of Zion's hill Salvation comes 2. And these are the days of Ezekiel The dry bones becoming as flesh And these are the days Of Your servant David Rebuilding a temple of praise And these are the days of the harvest The fields are as white in the world And we are the labourers In Your vineyard Declaring the Word of the Lord Bridge There is no god like Jehovah There is no god like Jehovah There is no god like Jehovah There is no god like Jehovah 2
NEW CITY CATECHISM: QUESTION 7 Q: What does the law of God require? A: Personal, perfect, and perpetual obedience; that we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves. What God forbids should never be done and what God commands should always be done. Holy Holy Holy 1.Holy holy holy, Lord God Almighty Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee Holy holy holy, merciful and mighty God in three persons, blessed Trinity 2. Holy holy holy, All the saints adore Thee Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea Cherubim and seraphim, falling down before Thee Which wert and art and evermore shalt be 3. Holy holy holy, though the darkness hide Thee Though the eye of sinful man, thy glory may not see Only Thou art holy, there is none beside Thee Perfect in power in love and purity 4. Holy holy holy, Lord God Almighty All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea Holy holy holy, merciful and mighty God in three persons, blessed Trinity
O Church Arise 1. O Church arise and put your armour on Hear the call of Christ our Captain For now the weak can say that they are strong In the strength that God has given With shield of faith and belt of Truth We’ll stand against the devil’s lies An army bold whose battle cry is love Reaching out to those in darkness 2. Our call to war to love the captive soul But to rage against the captor And with the sword that makes the wounded whole We will fight with faith and valor When faced with trials on ev'ry side We know the outcome is secure And Christ will have the prize for which He died An inheritance of nations Chorus Arise shine for your Light has come Arise shine for the risen Son Lift your eyes we are His radiant bride Arise O Church arise 3. Come see the cross where love and mercy meet As the Son of God is stricken Then see His foes lie crushed beneath His feet For the Conqueror has risen And as the stone is rolled away And Christ emerged from his grave This victory march continues 'til the day Every eye and heart shall see Him 4. So Spirit come put strength in every stride Give grace for every hurdle That we may run with faith to win the prize Of a servant good and faithful As saints of old still line the way Retelling triumphs of His grace We hear their calls and hunger for the day When with Christ we stand in Glory PASTORAL PRAYER
SERMON TEXT : ACTS 9:32-43 32 Now as Peter went here and there among them all, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda. 33 There he found a man named Aeneas, bedridden for eight years, who was paralyzed. 34 And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed.” And immediately he rose. 35 And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord. 36 Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity. 37 In those days she became ill and died, and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. 38 Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, “Please come to us without delay.” 39 So Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. 40 But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. 41 And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then, calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. 42 And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord. 43 And he stayed in Joppa for many days with one Simon, a tanner.
Peter and a Growing Church - Acts 9:32-43 Theme: Jesus is the perfect Savior who calls imperfect people to follow him. #1 - The Miracle at Lydda A. The Healing of Aeneas and Jesus and the Paralytic: Luke 5:17-26 20 And when he saw their faith, he said, “Man, your sins are forgiven you.” 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 22 When Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them, “Why do you question in your hearts? 23 Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? 24 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the man who was paralyzed—“I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home.” 25 And immediately he rose up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and went home, glorifying God. Key Truths 1. The resurrected Jesus sees us and cares about us as individuals. 2. The resurrected Jesus calls us to be part of the coming Kingdom #2 - The Miracle at Joppa A. The Healing of Tabitha and the Centurion’s Daughter: Luke 8:40-56 49 While he was still speaking, someone from the ruler’s house came and said, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more.”… 51 And when he came to the house, he allowed no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child. 52 And all were weeping and mourning for her, but he said, “Do not weep, for she is not dead but sleeping.” 53 And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But taking her by the hand he called, saying, “Child, arise.” 55 And her spirit returned, and she got up at once. Key Truths 1. Miracles are an affirmation of the ministry of Jesus. It was entrusted to the apostles in the early church. We live an apostolic faith. 2. The miracles remind us that the Word of God can be trusted. Other Passages Luke 5:5-11 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. 7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” 9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” 11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him. Matthew 14:28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” Matthew 26:33 Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.” 34 Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” 35 Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” 1 Kings 17:22 And the LORD listened to the voice of Elijah. And the life of the child came into him again, and he revived. 23 And Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper chamber into the house and delivered him to his mother. And Elijah said, “See, your son lives.” 24 And the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is truth.”
