Health & Safety Statement:

  • Weightlifting Ireland (WI) will not be held responsible for health and safety
issues with respect to the field of play in which the lifter submits their video.
However, WI strongly encourage lifters to adhere to facility health and safety
policies & use of the field of play (i.e., platform or lifting area) and equipment.

Competition Technical Details:

  • Athletes can submit as many videos as they want between the competition
dates outlined. Their best attempt in the Snatch and Clean & Jerk will be used
      for the competition results.
o Athletes must submit separate videos for each lift.
o Both lifts DO NOT need to be completed on the same day but MUST
be completed between the competition dates outlined.
o If lifts are from different dates, an average bodyweight will be used for
category classification and to calculate Sinclair points score.
              E.g. 83.6kg + 82.8kg = 166.4kg/2 = 83.2kg (competition BW).

  • Athletes must use a “Timestamp” app when recording their video to insure
fairness for other competitors. Find WI tested apps below:
          o iPhone : https://apps.apple.com/ie/app/timestamp-camera-
             basic/id840110184
          o Android :
             https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jeyluta.timestampca
             merafree

  • Videos will be emailed to : competitions@weightliftingireland.com where they
will be collected in a secure WI Google Drive folder which will be accessible to
all participants. As videos are received and judged they will be uploaded into
the Google Drive under the following format:
          o Male / Female
          o Categories

  • Athletes must include the following in their entry emails:
         o Full name
         o Weight category
o Exact bodyweight at time of video/lift (must match visual in the video)
o Weight on the barbell (must match visual in the video)

  • Videos should not exceed 2 minutes (120 seconds) in length and should be
taken with a Smart Phone camera no older than iPhone 7 or its Android
equivalent. This should guarantee quality of image.
o Ensure lifting area has sufficient lighting.
o Athletes must hold the barbell overhead for a 0:02 – 0:03 count before
dropping for the lift to be valid and accepted for review.

                                                  Copyright 2020 | Weightlifting Ireland
• Video should commence and, with minimal delay, a verbal statement including
    - athlete name, category, and attempt weight followed by the lift; bodyweight
    check & barbell/weights visual.

• Athletes full body including barbell & weights overhead with fully locked out
arms (jerk position) should always be visible in the video for it to be valid and
    accepted for review.

• Videoing details outlined below:

o The “Timestamp” app must be used for ALL lifts to be valid and
         accepted for review.
o Camera to be placed directly in front of the lifter at chair or table height
         (approx. 1m off the ground).
o Camera should be in the portrait orientation and in an upright position
         (minimal lean angle).
o Camera to be placed at sufficient distance from the lifter to capture full
lift yet not too far away as to lose detail of the lift (e.g., unable to see
         possible elbow bend) (approx. 2-3m).
o Video cannot be taken in a handheld position; camera must be placed
against a stable base or in a tripod stand.
o Camera can be moved after the lift is complete to show scales &
         barbell/weights.

Rules & Regulations:

Due to the nature of this event, we ask that all athletes participate with integrity to
show respect to their fellow athletes.

   • The wearing of a weightlifting singlet is preferred but not compulsory to
compete. WI costume rules apply (please refer to the WI Competition
Technical Rules & Regulations document found here :
       https://weightliftingireland.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/W.I.-Technical-
       Rules-August-2020-Update.pdf ).

   • An honesty policy will apply to weightlifting belts & wrist wraps measurements.
If a judge thinks any width is suspicious from video submission, photo
evidence may be required for validation to be completed.

   • WI may seek confirmation of equipment weight markings. Any suspicion of
plate or bar tampering to falsify loaded bar measurement may result in
disqualification with no correspondence being entered.

   • In relation to the 5kg weight check – a 0.5kg deviation tolerance will be
allowed. If your check weighs 5.6kg or more, we will take 0.5kg off your BW. If
your check weighs 4.4kg or less, we will add 0.5kg to your BW.

   • We recommend the use of clips for all attempts for health & safety reasons.

   • WI acknowledge that marked platforms may not be available to all
participants. We recommend enough clearance in front and behind the lifter to
safely miss the lift without causing injury (approx. 1-2m).

   • We ask all participants to do their best to adhere to the video rulings outlined
above. WI acknowledge that a perfect video set up environment may not be
possible for all, so we ask participants to do their best to keep athlete &
barbell in frame with elbows visible (front or 45 degree angle will be
       considered).

   • Athletes must understand the risks associated with competing and be aware
that they are responsible for their own health and safety during this online
       competition.

   • For video judging purposes, if the lift video shows the athlete and/or
barbell/weights leaving the frame of the video, a ‘no lift’ will be given.

   • Athletes MUST hold the recovery position ‘momentarily’ (0:02 - 0:03) to show
stability and control before returning the bar to floor for the lift to be valid and
accepted for review. Control barbell to shoulder height, do not drop from
       overhead.

                                                   Copyright 2020 | Weightlifting Ireland
• Other typical ‘no lift’ situations may include, but not be limited to, bar
oscillation in the jerk, elbow lockout problems, knee flexion in clean recovery,
feet not in line in recovery.

   • If participant is U18, parents’ permission for video submission & entry must be
provided. A €5 entry fee is requested to cover operational transaction fee,
       nothing else.

   • Once videos are submitted, they will be reviewed, and a decision will be made
       within 3 – 5 working days.

   • We ask all participants to NOT post any attempts on their social media
accounts until their lift has been judged. The lifter will be notified of the result
via email to allow the opportunity to submit another attempt.

   • Once the competition is complete and the collation of all lifts by category and
ascending bar has been published on the WI digital platforms ALL videos will
be deleted from the WI Google Drive.

   • A judging panel, consisting of National Level Referees will review video
submissions, where a majority decision ruling will be made to determine a
       “Good Lift” or “No Lift”.

   • WI National Level Referees’ decisions are final. There will no appeals
process. If there are complaints, they should be sent in writing to :
       secretary@weightlifitngireland.com

   • Video submission & complaints process deadline: December 31st @ 9PM. Any
videos or complaints received after this deadline will not be considered.

Publication & Results:

Once all videos are received and the deadline passed a panel of judges will review
all videos to tally the results.

It is envisioned that WI will be able to edit and produce the complete collation of all
lifts by category and ascending bar and publish these on a digital platform, possibly
with commentary or at least subtitles, (e.g.; Facebook Page or YouTube) for public
view.

Following judging, the results will be published online, and awards posted to
respective winners. ALL videos will then be deleted from the WI Google Drive.
