To each cycle, its mission! N Cycle 1 : Collect 150 points in the fastest time possible, without exceeding 60 seconds. Access to operations areas A, B and C. Specific rules 1.1 The Junior Tech Challenge is a Réseau Technoscience program. The latter and its regional organizations are responsible for holding regional finals throughout Quebec. 1.2 The Junior Tech Challenge is open to the students from all cycles of elementary school. 1.3 Each team is comprised of one or two participants. Any team with students from two different cycles must compete the challenge from the higher cycle. 1.4 The prototype shall be designed and built by the team. 1.5 Failure to observe the rules or any other breach from the organizing committee’s directives may result in the disqualification of a team. 1.6 The gripping tool must not alter the competition area. Construction 2.1 The gripping tool must fit on the floor inside a marked-off area measuring 0.5 m x 1 m. It can be disassembled if necessary, and reassembled by the team once the judges have conducted their check. N 2.2 The gripping tool must be held in the operator’s hands, without any ground support (no standing gripping tools are allowed). 2.3 The gripping tool must be made of parts or materials that are independent of one another. E.g.: A pair of salad tongs or any other type of gripping tool already available on the market cannot be used. Existing, individually available components may, however, be used. 2.4 The items must be picked up by the gripping tool to be transported. They cannot be transported using a shovelling motion, or on a tray or in any type of container. 2.5 The gripping tool must not alter the items. Each item must return to its original shape after being seized by the teams’ gripping tools. Otherwise, no points will be awarded for that item. 2.6 The answers published in the Frequently Asked Questions serve as a reference for the interpretation of the rules. 2.7 The following are not allowed: –– Any type of telescoping system NOT manufactured by the participants (e.g.: cane, pool pole, telescoping umbrella); –– Any gripping tool that could cause injuries; –– Any form of electric power, magnets or welded material; N –– Standing gripping tool. He cannot stand or lean on anything outside that area. Two warnings may be given to an operator violating this rule. Sock Each team must collect as many points as possible within 60 seconds. The timer stops as soon as the team reaches or exceeds 150 or 200 points. In addition to the points collected, the team is awarded a bonus of 2 points per second not used. If the team has not reached 150 or 200 points at the end of the 60-seconds time limit, all points collected will count.
