COVID-19 – Information for van driver volunteers Introduction: What is Foodprint? Foodprint is Nottingham’s first social supermarket and a food redistribution network. This is a student led social enterprise managed by students at the University of Nottingham. In addition to making an environmental impact by reducing food waste, we work to fill the gap for those who cannot afford to shop at standard retail prices but want the dignity that food banks cannot provide. We source surplus food through a partnership with FareShare East Midlands. We are currently using their Coop scheme and get around 800kgs of food delivered to our shop each Friday. In addition to that, our volunteer van drivers also collect surplus food from many food retailers across Nottingham. This food is then sold at highly reduced prices. Our opening hours are usually Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 11am-4pm and Monday 11am- 4pm but they can vary from week to week as the shop is managed by our amazing volunteers and if we cannot find anybody for a particular shift, we must remain closed. Furthermore, we redistribute to a variety of other local organizations including school breakfast clubs, community eating hubs and food banks. These organizations either collect the food directly from the shop or get it delivered to their facilities by one of our volunteer van drivers. Shifts for van drivers will range from 1 hour to 4 hours and will vary week to week depending on how much there is to collect and redistribute, therefore we require volunteers to be available for a morning or afternoon shift ideally the same shift each week so that the route becomes familiar. Accessing the van at Woolpack House, Jubilee Campus: The lock box containing the gate key is located by the front door of the building. The code is 2985. Inside you’ll find a small key with a tag saying ‘gate’ which is for the gate padlock. You’re fine to leave the gates open when popping around the back of the building to collect the van and to park your car, but once you’re back out the front the gates must be locked again and the key returned to the lock box. Please only use the far side of the car park where our two vans are parked, the university’s Estates department also use the back of the building and are regularly coming and going with various vehicles. If for any reason you incur a penalty charge or fine while collecting/dropping off for Foodprint, we’ll pay the first, but any others incurred are the responsibility of the volunteer. Entrance and exit are one way (see on attached photo). Park in the drop off bay next to the entrance if possible or the visitor parking at the front of the building and speak to the Security Office (on the corner of the building to the left of reception, marked with X on photo). Make sure to return red crates from previous week. 2. Quantities may vary so check for messages from Alice but generally 65 bst of both and 5 white loaves. 3. Deliver 15 best of both loaves to Blue Bell Hill Primary School (St Anns), see attached photo for entrance to car park (off Gordon Road). You will need to tell the person at the gate buzzer to send someone to the side door to collect it from you. Follow the arrow on the photo and park at the side of the building near the small side door to meet them. 4. Deliver 5 white loaves to Hogarth Primary School (Porchester Road). 5. Deliver 25 best of both loaves to William Booth Primary School on Monday and 25 best of both loaves on Tuesday (Sneinton), opposite the shop. Partner Deliveries 1. Drive to the shop at 101 Sneinton Road, NG2 4QL. Either park in the lay-by out the front or one of the spaces opposite, or if full park around the back of the shop near the bins (see below). 2. Collect the crates of food to be delivered from the shop in Sneinton. If the shop is open, let the shop volunteer know who you are and collect the crates. If the shop is closed you must let yourself in and lock up behind you. The keys for the shutters and front door are located around the back. The code for the back gate and lock box by the back door are both 7746. Once you have the keys, close the lock box and lock the gate behind you. The code for the padlock at the front to the left of the shutters is also 7746. The key with the blue/green cap activates the shutters, and the square key opens the door to the shop. Crates will either be left on the desk with a note, or in the back storage room on a shelf. If the crates haven’t been pre-prepared, make a couple up with any fruit, pastries, cakes, or sweets that are leftover, prioritising fresh produce that will have gone off before the shop reopens next. Lock up behind you. 3. If there are lots of empty crates in the back of the van, put these with the others in the storage room at the back of the shop before locking up – approx. 5 foldable crates in the back of the van is ideal at any one time.
4. Deliver to Denise at Walkers Food Bank, Sneinton. Park in the lay-by (on Bath Street) next to the square at Sneinton Market (see below). 5. Return the van and keys to Woolpack House.
