PRESORTED STANDARD U.S. POSTAGE PAID Ironwood, MI Permit No. 85 August 30, 2018 Serving communities surrounding Land O' Lakes • 715-547-3745 • www.borderbulletin.com free Old Victoria Offers More Than Craft Fair Every year in August, Old Victoria by Rockland, MI, comes alive with a craft fair, kids games, log cabin tours, and cinnamon rolls, which bring visitors back annually. The cinnamon rolls are baked on site in an old wood stove and served fresh out of the oven. The historic log cabins in this old mining town are set up as if you are taking a walk back into history. The tour guides are dressed in historic attire and are full of stories and knowledge of mining copper days. Kids enjoy old fashion games, which include gunny sack races. Hiking trails, behind the buildings, lead to the ruins of where the mining shaft was located. The views overlooking the Porcupine Mountains are spectacular. An afternoon at Old Victoria gives a true sense of the life and times of the copper min- ers and their families back in the day. Photos by Bor der Bul These letin photos capture the fun and history of the day. Left: Inside one of the log cabins. There are also photos and names of the mining fami- lies that lived in each cabin. Above: Kids enjoying gunny sack races, one of the many games offered. Right: The ruins left standing of the old mine shaft building where the copper was mined.
