The area from West Newport and the Newport Pier to Balboa Pier, referred to
by locals as “the Peninsula,” is known for a bustling late-night dining scene, the
kid-friendly Fun Zone (complete with Ferris wheel) and prime people-watching.
You don’t have to commandeer your own boat here, but you can; you’ll find plenty
available to rent — and you simply cannot beat the experience of being your own
captain. Or, if you prefer to stay grounded, consider renting a beach cruiser to fit in
like locals who take to the boardwalk to sightsee and use it as the choice mode of
transportation to all the neighborhood restaurants.

Bodysurfers and bodyboarders travel from around
the world to the end of Balboa Peninsula to challenge
themselves on shore-breaking big waves (some reach
30 feet in height). When the conditions are right,
spectators gather and stand in awe of the wave riders.

three main areas: Reef Point, which has bluff trails with access to two coves;
Pelican Point, which includes a 3.25-mile trail; and Los Trancos, which has a

for rent. Another one of the area’s gems lies just off Crystal Cove Beach: a 1,140-
acre underwater park for snorkelers and scuba divers. When it comes to brunch,
Crystal Cove’s Beachcomber Café doesn’t mess around. Reservations are a must.

menu, it’s nice to have the option!
I have seen a nice evolution in Newport’s cocktail culture. While some
diners are specific about what they drink, I feel that the most are willing to
roll the dice and see what the bar has to offer. With such an abundance of
fresh ingredients right in our backyard and bartenders playing with interesting
techniques, it’s nice to see more guests willing to step away from their norm
and immerse themselves into the restaurant’s unique culture.”
