Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Club members were busy as a club virtually, creating thank you cards for frontline workers, decorative signs for senior citizens and donating toiletries for a local charity. Students designed wrote heartfelt thank you notes to Shore Medical Center nurses and doctors, recognizing their non-stop efforts to keeping the local community safe and healthy. Club members also created spring signs to be posted on doors/halls at Wesley Manor for senior citizen residents. Finally, students donated toiletries and cleaning products for a local charity to help a family in need.
The members of NHS collected 263 Easter baskets for the Boys and Girls Club of AC this past month This holiday season, the Leadership Club collaborated with the Key Club to create Easter cards and donate chocolate-filled Easter eggs to the elderly of Ocean City. The club spread lots of Easter joy by donating about 30 cads and 80 eggs. Furthermore, the Leadership club donated 64 care packages filled with soap, wipes, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine products, shampoo, conditioner, disposable masks, and hand sanitizer to the Atlantic city Rescue Mission. The Mission gives aid and shelter to the homeless and needy of Atlantic city, and our care packages will help them provide relief to many families this year. The Leadership Club is thrilled to spread happiness and care to those in need this holiday season.
Key Club had a busy March with various service projects. Members have been collecting bottle caps for several months; bottle caps were collected from soda, water Gatorade, and milk bottles. The bottle caps were used to help provide treatment/cover miscellaneous expenses for a child with cancer. Hundreds of can tabs were also collected and sent to the Ronald McDonald House. The collected tabs help by raising money to cover expenses for children and families that are receiving care. We also had a used book drive for children and teens in Atlantic City. Books were dispersed throughout the schools. Finally, hearts were made for the healthcare workers at Shore Medical Center.
Key Club held their first Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive of the year. Members socially distanced and made over 500 sandwiches that were taken to the Atlantic City Rescue Mission. Members also filled eggs and made cards to go along with 170 meals being delivered by OCNJCare. The signed Easter cards will go to lift the spirits of our elderly friends in Ocean City.
The Club OC Minds Matter wanted to support the mental health of our LGBTQ+ community. The club organized a fundraiser in which they sold pronoun pins for $1. The goal was to promote the idea that not worrying about someone using an incorrect pronoun for you is a privilege and to further support our LGBTQ+ peers by normalizing wearing your pronouns visibly on you. Staff and students were encouraged to wear their pins during SEL (Social Emotional Learning) week. The fundraiser was a great success. OC Minds Matter thanks everyone who supported their efforts. If you are still interested in purchasing a pin, you can speak with Mrs. Uhrich or visit the Library/Media Center.
