BOARD OF DIRECTORS Tonight we inspire a new generation of leaders as we celebrate the achievements of Sherry Dong, Teresa Maynard, Samantha Mewis and Dora Ullian. Each of these extraordinary women embodies the spirit and values of NEWLA: Character, Courage, Leadership, Generosity and Selflessness. EVENT CHAIR KEYNOTE SPEAKER TINA LE Amy Latimer BGCD Club Member & Staff Tina has been an enthusiastic member of Boys & Girls Clubs President, TD Garden of Dorchester since she was six years old. Growing up at the Club, Tina says that it has always been like a second home to her where she could feel safe, have fun and make new Amy Latimer is President of TD Garden, one of the most active, highly regarded and friends. MASTER OF CEREMONIES MEMBER INVOLVEMENT BGCD DANCE TEAM & Lisa Hughes PROSE SPEAKERS Anchor, WBZ-TV News BGCD DANCE TEAM: Emmy Award-winning journalist Lisa Hughes is a news anchor for WBZ-TV News weekdays at 5PM, Taryn Daniel 6PM and 11PM with co-anchor David Wade. Lisa joined the station in June 2000 and since then she Andrea Henderson has covered just about every major news event and newsmaker in New England. Before joining CBS, Mallory Powell Lisa worked as a reporter and anchor at KIRO-TV in Seattle, Washington, KBCI-TV in Boise, Idaho and Sophie Valles for KCBY-TV in Coos Bay, Oregon. Leila Webb Caroline Zarnoch Lisa received both a 2014 Columbia DuPont Award as well as a 2013 George Foster Peabody Award as part of WBZ-TV’s team coverage of the Boston Marathon Bombings. Lisa has also received Emmy Awards for Anchoring in 2014, for On-Camera Talent Reporter in 2008 and for PROSE SPEAKERS: Hard News Story in 1996. In 2016, Lisa received the Circle of Giving Award at Boys & Girls Clubs Fatoumata Balde of Dorchester’s New England Women’s Leadership Awards. Mariyah Corriea Lisa is passionate about empowering young people in Greater Boston and serves, with pride, on Mia Heim the Board of Directors of Big Sister Boston. She also serves on the Board of Directors of First Literacy, the Board of Overseers for Boston Ballet and a new Development Board at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. The daughter of two English teachers, Lisa often partners with the Mayor’s Office for ReadBoston events. She works with Boston Children’s Hospital on fundraising events, patient profiles and stories about research and treatment. She has also participated in events for Perkins School for the Blind, Horizons for Homeless Children, Disabled American Veterans and Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester. Every August, Lisa rides the Pan Mass Challenge to raise money for Dana Farber Cancer Institute and enjoys sharing stories of riders and doctors through WBZ’s media partnership with the PMC. Born in Boulder, Colorado and raised in Moscow, Idaho, Lisa graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Washington. A member for 14 years, Mia competes on the Marr-Lins swim team and gives back to her community through Keystone Club. She has also taken part in all the special trips the Club has to offer, such as Disney for Kids, skiing at Shawnee Peak, and going to Camp Northbound in Bridgton, Maine. For the past two years, Mia has been working at the Club as a junior staff and can’t wait for more opportunities to be a part of.
