Proposal Summary • NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island will provide 911 ambulance service to Floral Park. • One Advanced Life Support ambulance will be provided 24/7 solely dedicated to servicing the village in a first due position. – Calls will be prioritized by criticality. Floral Park FD volunteers will maintain second due, NCPD EAB ambulance will be third due. • The ambulance will be staffed by one NYU EMT and one NYU paramedic. • The ambulance will be stationed within the confines of the Village and will only leave the confines to transport a patient. • Access to additional NYU EMS resources for community outreach standbys in Floral Park, as well as for FPFD training activities, such as fire school. • No fee will be charged to Floral Park for our services. • NYU Langone EMS will collaborate with other Floral Park services, including Police and Fire to prepare for, and respond to Village needs. • PD will respond to calls for service as per their policies and procedures but will no longer be required to drive to the hospital with the ambulance. 2
NYU Langone EMS Overview • NYU Langone currently provides EMS services within the NYC 911 system – 21 ambulances in NYC (8 Advanced Life Support, 13 Basic Life Support) – Two ALS ambulances in the Village of Garden City – Responding to over 95,000 calls annually • Existing ambulance service operating certificate covers 8 counties, including NYC, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester. • The department has over 30 years of experience and over 15 years of continuous in- service availability across 911 contract in New York City and Nassau. – Exceeds all performance indicators in the NYC and Nassau 911 system. • All ambulances are fully equipped with the most up-to-date patient care equipment. • All staff undergo extensive orientation and receive ongoing training. – Certified NYS Department of Heath Bureau of EMS training instructors. – Approved training site. • Recognized by American Heart Association as a Mission Lifeline Gold Award recipient for STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction) care. • Recognized by NYS Department of Health for best practices. 3
Benefits to Floral Park • NYU Langone is committed to providing high quality EMS exclusively to the residents of Floral Park. • Dedicating one ambulance to Floral Park will improve ambulance response times. • This proposal increases EMS availability in the Village and reduces need to redeploy a Police Officer from other assigned duties • Proposed services will not displace employees of other local municipal, volunteer, Fire or Emergency Medical Services. • Patients and families maintain freedom of choice regarding hospital destination, provided the hospital is not on diversion and has the capabilities to provide appropriate care for the patient’s medical condition. 4
