NTrip Corrections via CORS Network for TeeJet Technologies RX-600RTK Evaluation of Potential Locations This document describes the steps that can be taken to evaluate whether or not NTrip type RTK corrections delivered via cellular modem from a CORS network are available in any given US location. Due to the inherently in-accurate nature of defining cellular coverage areas the results of following this evaluation should be considered indicative only, and does not constitute a guarantee of successful operation of the system. An on-ground test in the actual location will provide confirmation of the suitability of CORS as a viable RTK correction option for the RX-600RTK system. If a preliminary evaluation suggests that CORS will work, a limited time no-charge Data Plan and console Activation can possibly be arranged with TeeJet Technologies in order to test a system at the target location. CORS network compatibility is an integral part of the RX-600RTK system. The hardware needed to connect to the network is built into the RX-600RTK, and TeeJet offers a complete solution for CORS network operations including the cellular Data Plan. This high level of integration means that the user does not have to piece together the hardware nor invest time and money in negotiating connectivity to the cellular network. Please note the following important considerations: • Some CORS networks are sponsored by State agencies who typically don’t charge for accessing the service, while other CORS networks are privately owned and will require the user pay a fee to access the network. This document should help you identify these factors before committing to the CORS option for the RX-600RTK system. • The formation and access to CORS networks changes on a very regular basis. Please contact TeeJet Technologies or navigate to the following webpage to be sure that you are referencing the very latest version of this document and sup- porting material http://www.teejet.com/english/home/products/precision-farming-products/gps-receivers-and-accessories/rx-600rtk.aspx • TeeJet Technologies makes no claims as to the accuracy of the material contained in this document. If you find CORS network contact or status information in this document that is incorrect or has changed, please contact TeeJet Customer Service and advise us of the discrepancy so we can keep this resource up-to-date. • Please keep in mind that some CORS networks used in the Survey market are used for the post-processing of GPS data, and as such are not suitable for use in a unit like the RX-600RTK that requires real-time correction data. See below for details on compatible networks. • As a general rule-of-thumb you can expect to receive acceptable accuracy up to 10 miles outside of the network, but please be sure to test and verify to your own satisfaction. WARNING: Accessing NTRIP data via cell modem is possible almost anywhere you have cell phone coverage, but RTK level accuracy will only be achieved if the unit is within ~ 10 miles of the network being referenced. 98-01281 R0 www.teejet.com Page 1
Compatible NTrip/CORS networks The RX-600RTK system can only operate on networks that stream the following data formats: • CMR • CMR+ • RTCM 3.0 Please note that the GLONASS option on the RX-600RTK is only supported on networks streaming RTCM 3.0 Summary of the evaluation process 1. Determine if the target location is covered by a CORS network and if the subscription fees (if any) are acceptable 2. Determine if the target location is covered by a suitable cellular data network (to transport the NTrip correction data to the rover.) 3. Determine the process involved in logging onto the NTrip server. Note: It is necessary to ensure you have both a CORS network available and cellular data coverage, in order for CORS based RTK corrections to work on the RX-600RTK. Procedure 1. Determine if the target location is covered by a CORS network a. Call, or look up the website listed below to see if the target location is covered by a CORS network and confirm that the subscription fee (if any) is acceptable. Determine if the target location is covered by a suitable cellular data network that can relay the NTrip correction data to the rover. To view the coverage map of the CDMA provider used by the RX-600RTK, go to www.aeris.net , move your mouse over the image and then click on ‘Aeris’s CDMA coverage’ . Please see the following map for an example. • The dark green areas are where 2 or more compatible cellular carriers are present, and data coverage should be good. • The light green areas are where there is a single compatible cellular carrier present, and the system should still work fine. • The white areas have no cellular coverage and most likely will not support corrections from any CORS network that may cover that area. 98-01281 R0 www.teejet.com Page 3
3. Determine the process involved in logging onto the NTrip server. a. Contact the Network Administrator via phone or website as recommended in this document to obtain logon credentials including: i. Host/Server IP address ii. Host/Server Port iii. Username iv. Password In the case of CORS networks sponsored by State or local government agencies at no charge; this utility is being provided as a public service and does not include any support from the sponsoring agency whatsoever. Please keep this in mind when requesting log-on credentials for the network, and only contact the agency by the method indicated in this document. Please refer to TeeJet Technical Bulletin 98-01270 for complete details on correctly provisioning an RX-600RTK system for operation on a CORS network, entering the log-on credentials into the RX-600RTK console, and operating on the CORS network. 98-01281 R0 www.teejet.com Page 4
