Crystal and the NM B2B web services Current and foreseen usages B2B Tech Forum, 29/01/2015 Jérôme Layat, skyguide
What is Crystal? › skyguide traffic prediction tool, highly adapted to local environment › For FMP and Supervisors to: • Improve local traffic situation awareness • Choose the best sectorisation • Increase capacity • Provide reliable complexity indicator • Reduce risks of saturations • Reduce users workload Let's have a quick look: crystal_demo.flv 11
Crystal regulation display regulations 12
Regulations data: entering NM B2B web services › April 2014 : FlowServices : ANMRequest to get regulations › June – October 14: B2B team improved the way to get detailed regulations information, creating the RegulationListRequest › Current usage: polling regularly to get new Regulations data › Near future: Publish/Subscribe to avoid polling 13

Questions we had regarding NM B2B Wait for NM B2B on PENS or go for the internet version? ? ? www or PENS What are the authorised limits when requesting the NM B2B? ? 18
NM B2B web services team Improve the services according to users' requests/needs Nice support, availability: channels to interact with the team Knowledge base videoconf email Tiger team (users) to gather usage and architecture feedback on tech topics: we participate Well prepared package and documentation onesky website is the central source for what you need to start to use NM B2B 19
Many features are in our backlog, some of them involving NM B2B Services… …but now, it's time to… Thank you 20
iFMP integrated Flow Management Position Network Manager – User Forum 2015 28-29 January 2015 Robert Parys The European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation
Agenda • Problem statement • Why local ATFCM tool is needed? • What is iFMP today? • What are the B2B services used today? • Future enhancements
Problem statement MUAC airspace @ core area of Europe
Problem statement All-time high TRAFFIC PEAK 1 July 2011 5,163 flights
Why local ATFCM tool is needed? iFMP becomes the primary ATFCM tool* @ MUAC because • Integrates with local systems • FDP system (trajectories) • Tactical man-power planning system (sectors manning) • ASM systems (eg LARA) • Can act as the local XMANs integrator • Allowing for ATFCM-ATC link (iFMP will feed FDP/CWP with STAM and/or XMAN proposals) • Supports new operational concepts • ATC2ATM Program at MUAC (2015-2025) • SESAR concepts • Complexity management • Advanced dDCB • Provides high reliability and availability, maintained in-house i.a.w. internal ENG standards * with CHMI & NOP available as-is as a backup and network reference tool
What is iFMP today? • TRAFFIC PREDICTION • prediction of sector load (1-60 min occ., 20/60 min entry, complexity) based on • EFD messages from ETFMS • trajectories from local FDP • PERFORMANT & USER FRIENDLY HMI • hotspots identification and tagging, detailed analysis of the hotspot • geographical radar-like display • interactivity between charts, maps and lists • customizable flights and flow filters • TOOLS • what-if on sector configurations & flights • sector optimization (for over- and under-load situations) • INTEGRATION • NM B2B web services (E-AUP/E-UUP, regulations, flights information) • weather (METAR/TAF) • link with tactical man-power planning system (TimeZone) • local FDP system
What is iFMP today? OPS trial since Dec-14 Operational in Feb-15
B2B services used today E-AUP / E-UUP AirspaceServices • updates every 10 mins • Color coding for specific TSAs combinations • Replaces old means of AUP/UUP communication • First step towards ASM tact info (from LARA or NM in the future)
B2B services used today Regulations FlowServices; FlightServices • updates every 5 mins • Airports regulations displayed with TAF/METAR data • shows regulated flights (by most penalizing regulation)
Future enhancements • Gradual replacement of most used CHMI/NOP functions into iFMP via B2B (e.g. tact capacity updates) • ATC integration (feeding CWP/FDPS with STAM & sectorization changes) • ASM integration (LARA) • dDCB/STAM using B2B (part of SESAR P13.2.3 VP700) • Further complexity algorithms refinement (SESAR P4.7.1)
FlightAware and Eurocontrol B2B Web Services 29 January 2015
Introducing FlightAware • Founded in 2005 by pilots, based in Houston, Texas • Originally focused on general aviation, expanded into airlines in 2008 • Largest aviation web site in the world (>300MM pages/mo) • 4,000 commercial customers representing >15,000 aircraft and >400 airports • Largest customers include United Airlines, SITA, NetJets, ARINC Direct, Boeing • Dozens of data sources spanning over 80 countries • Incorporating Eurocontrol data into services since 2011
FlightAware Use Cases Aircraft Operators Airports/FBOs/Ground Agents Fleet scheduling and routing Arrival/Departure info Coordination times for slots, immigration, Real-time flight following customs Alerts (pre-departure route and clearances, Flight Alerts (imminent arrival) flight following) Ground communications via ACARS Coordination with fueling companies messaging Weather imagery, briefings Worldwide airport delays and traffic flow management initiatives Coordination with FBOs and ground agents

FlightAware & B2B WS - Process & Challenges • Process and Access Management • Managing User Applications / Certificates • Restrict access to Eurocontrol data to authorized customers • Leveraging Data to Implement Useful Features • Detect when new flight plans have been filed • Supplement B2B WS data with positional data • Technical Limitations • Validity of departure/arrival times • Query mechanisms and performance
FlightAware & Eurocontrol - Summary • FlightAware & Eurocontrol • In three years, FlightAware has gone from zero to thousands of customers using Eurocontrol CFMU data. • Eurocontrol has been responsive and reactive to evaluating processes and policies to address FlightAware’s use cases. • Opinions on B2B WS • Reliable and well documented API • Organization desiring to widely leverage B2BWS need process development to comply with processes and restrictions. • Requests for B2B WS • Coming soon - ability to subscribe to flight plans rather than querying • Ability to query multiple aircraft at once to improve performance • Indication of estimated vs actual data should be present
